Title: Metallica-Live Is To Die

This song is really great! Well, I hope you know the original from Metallica, so you can hear he really caught the feeling of the song. Especially the lead part in the middle of the song is verry touching. This is one of the best tracked metal songs, I've ever heard. When you hear the song and notice the sample quality you might say I'm too generous with my ratings. But, this is a metal song, and as a matter of fact these are very hard to capture into a mod. As for the samples, good guitar samples are very hard to find (I know from experience). But the drum samples are very good.

No wonder they call Purple Motion one of the world's best trackers! This module consist of many varying parts, which sound very nice. The melodies are well done. This one really must be on your hard disk. It's amazing what this guy can do in a single channel. In only four channels he creates a song that sounds like there were seven. The loops in the chords are not always very good, but it does no damage to the song.

The whole song has a mysterious sphere, created mainly by the piano. The slow melodies are truely nice. The ratings would have been higher if the pianopart changed more often (it only changes at the end, as an outro). Don't listen to it too much, though, it could get boring. Technically, the song is very good. The panning of the piano gives the whole something special. No complaints about the samples either, except the one of the lead guitar. The feedback of the lead guitar sounds too long and too loud sometimes.

In fact, it is a nice song. However, some lead-parts don't come out nice with the background chords or the guitars. The only thing else that bothers me is the bass line. It doesn't sound realistic and keeps being repeated, as well as the drums. The few samples that are used are generally of quite good quality. No problems with the technique either. Too bad the lead parts sometimes sound wrong with the backgrounds, as I have said before. Otherwise it would have got a much higher rate.

This song is rather short, but that's all for the best. I think, if it would be longer, it would become boring. The drums and the bass riffs are always about the same (although this isn't a big problem). The melodies are ok. When listening to the samples, you'll notice there are some flaws in the loops. That's no problem in general because you can't hear them in the song. The song itself is well done, keeping in mind only four channels have been used.

I like about everything in this song. The composer has managed to create a good rythmic structure. The melodies on top of them are very well done. Sometimes, special effects are used to fill in some empty spaces. Truely a very good song. No complaints about the professionality either. Everything is handled with great detail. Many tracker effects are used to make it all sound optimal. All the samples have got a high quality, accept some that are used as effect.

Although Metal is my favorite music genre, I don't like this. In fact, the reason why I called this metal was because of the drums, which sound nice, and the rythms of the guitars. The chords of the guitars however aren't all that nice. The samples of the guitars aren't looped very well. This bothers sometimes when a chord is fading out slowly. The other samples are nice, especially the drums. The whole doesn't give a professional impression.

Although the melody more or less keeps being repeated, I still like the song because the composer keeps adding new and different backgrounds, to keep it from being boring. Some background chords come out too much, but in this case I don't think it's annoying. Sometimes the changeover between different parts isn't very smooth. It doesn't happen often, so it doesn't really make the song worse. All the patterns are carefully assembled, and have a very professional touch, except for the backgrounds who take over the song too much sometimes, as I have said before.

If you're into techno, I think you will like this one. The only thing that bothers me is the bass-line, that sounds false in some patterns. Overall it's a nice song, like the ones on radio and TV. You should at least listen to it. All the samples are of high quality. However, I advise the composer to tune all his instruments to the same pitch, in order to avoid some false notes. The different tunes (which seemed rather familiar to me) generally flow over nice.

To be honest, I didn't like this song very much. Apart from its slowness, it keeps using the same chords again and again. I thought the high pitches of the piano and string samples were sometimes annoying. Off course, if you like slow music, you might like this song. The samples were mostly well done. More volume effects and control (better ramping for instance) could be used to prevent some mingling notes, which gives the impression that the sample is overused. Accept from this, the song is nicely done.
