On one condition: lose the marquee formatting! ;)

In MilkyTracker, press Ctrl(-Alt)-R to access the HD Recorder without passing go or collecting $200.00. (This is available in Disk Op. as well.) You can write WAV files with said recorder function.

You can also use modplugtracker's convert to WAV-option or install the "convert to mp3"-tool for modplugtracker. Personally, I prefer to convert my MadTracker .xm-files to WAV using modplugtracker and convert WAV-files to mp3 using SMTP-player, which has a sweet mp3-splitter function.

there is no "convert to mp3" tool for modplug. modplug can make use of all available mp3 codecs, i.e. the ones installed in the system. Or you can put them in the same folder as mptrack.exe.

Perhaps my bad.. if I remember correctly, MPT could output a low-quality mp3-file, but that was quite a long time ago.

Sounds like that would be the crappy Microsoft MP3 codec, installed in the system.

Yes, that's the "advanced" fraunhofer codec. by simply putting LAME in modplug's folder, you can have high-quality MP3 output. I prefer wav export, though:
1) You can also convert to OGG ;D (note to self: modplug needs ogg support!)
2) You can do post-production, e.g. normalize the waveform

Hi all,

For batch processing (wanna put ALL your mods straight onto your MP3 player? for some reason?) go get foobar player, then find the add-on called foobar_dumb (no links here sorry), Load up foobar and load the "mod" folder into the playlist (the extension will recognise most module formats, even a few obscure ones!), highlight all, right-click Convert and set your options... you will need to d/l LAME mp3 converter and put it somewhere in reach of foobar for this to work, then set your options, press the "GO" key and go make a cuppa. The only problem with this is you wont be able to read the track name/artist name/other info on your mp3 player (i could be wrong about this but I dont see how an mp3 player can recognise any mod info) ...

Be sure to set your stereo spread to how you like it too!

Have fun kiddos :police:

you can easily batch-convert tunes in xmplay as well, without any obscure instructions like you gave - simply add some tunes to your playlist and hit the play button... and there you are. and I highly doubt that foobar's mod player is nearly as good as xmplay's.

I once heard DUMB was supposed to be good and got curious enough to try said foobar & plugin combo, only to find it failed pretty much on the first random .XM I threw at it.

If you want command-line software (which I do, at least), then another alternative is to use my "playmod" program to render and SoX to convert into the output format you need. Command-line software (whether mine or those written by other people) can help with batch-convert easily too, by writing a batch file. As you can see from this message and all other messages posted here, there are a lot of alternatives.

...why has a 7-year-old thread been bumped? That's not right.

Well anyway, despite that, guess I can throw in my way of converting any module into a WAV or MP3, and that is by using Foobar2000 (only when the "foo_dumb" plugin is used of course). To do that, load your module onto the program, right-click on it as it appears on the playlist window and go to Convert > Quick convert. From there you can convert it to whichever format you like although you can specify the Output bit depth and Dither but I don't think you need to do that unless you care about the quality of the soon-to-be converted file. Or, just go to "Default" and your module would be converted into the default format chosen from the other window.

Regarding the "of course": There is also an OpenMPT-based input plugin for fb2k (https://lib.openmpt.org/libopenmpt/). :)
And since command-line converters have been brought up: openmpt123 (from the same link) can be used to write out WAV and other formats as well.
However, since that necropost that revived this old thread heavily looked like an advertisment to me (advertising a non-free product), I have deleted it.

openmpt123 is probably more accurate than playmod anyways since it uses the OpenMPT playback library, which as far as I know is more accurate than the other one. (However, playmod also has some features I like that I am not sure if openmpt123 has, although playmod cannot output WAV directly (you have to use another program to convert raw output to WAV or MP3 or whatever other format you want).)

Oh, I didn't know that. Thanks for telling me :P
