Converting XM/MOD to MIDI and using as ringtone??
« on: July 30, 2006, 22:54:41 »

Hi, due to there being many amazing MOD tracks out there, I'd like to know if its possible to use them as ringtones for phones?

Is it possible to convert an XM file to a MIDI file (I've tried "2MID" program) without it sounding any different?

Thanks!   :)

I just don't think this is possible unless the XM is using some really basic sounds that can be "mapped" to  standard General MIDI. Modules are container files with their own sounds carried within the file, unlike General MIDI, which uses a standard table of 127 instruments built into the General MIDI playing device, not the MIDI file.

Good luck :)

i think your best bet would probably be to use some sort of midi-sequencer and try re-making the song yourself.  (or just get a phone that supports short mp3 tunes for the ringtone, even the 10 dollar samsung phones do it!)

Of course the songs will be different in MIDI because the samples used are fetched from your sound card! And the MIDI used in mobile phones are different from the one used in PC:s, too (fewer instruments and notes range).

If you can and have the time, just remake them in your cell phone. That's what I do. Got quite a collection of MIDI remix tunes and covers in it by now, hehe. 8-)

Oh, when I think about, if you want some MIDI tunes from me, just ask. I'm happy to share them (some are my own songs - MOD covers and originals).

I think it is possible..  once I used a Tracker, and translated Midi into Mod,  actually used the notes only and applyed my own sounds to them.. but I think you can also do it revers. Just the sounds should be somehow substituted by midi instruments..

is there possibly a Modplug tracker?  if yes, than it was the prog I used..

I just thought I would add a bit of info to this topic concerning mod players for mobile phones... Oddly enough, there's been one sitting under my nose for ages, as the authors link to us for mods to try with it!

UltraMP3 plays various module formats too.

Overview
UltraMP3 is a music player for your mobile phone. It is a handy application with cool graphical user interface, allowing you to listen to your favorite music on your Symbian mobile device. UltraMP3 loads and plays music in MP3 and OGG format, as well as MOD, XM, IT, S3M.

Bear in mind it is not free, though.

I've heard BeroTracker has fairly okay MIDI support. But since BeroTracker didn't come with a manual (and was about as obvious as every other tracker by Bero...), I didn't really get into it a lot.
