This song takes a singular melody and styles it every way imaginable. I personally find the energy and professionalism in this song inspiring, and though this song has gotten a little worn over the years (I have been listening to it since '95) it is still a welcome and enjoyable listen. 20 channels fully utilized, 21 original samples, and all 25 patterns different? Those are pretty unattainable numbers in most popular modules. An adapted quote from Fanta C: "Each and every repetition of the melody is different. He has literally used every trick in the book. There are little FX samples, multisampled voice choirs, seagulls, key changes, little spot instruments, tempo changes and more. Perhaps at upon your first listen you might not be too impressed, but after a few times you will realise that you are actually listening to quite a masterpiece. As with all great tracks it's a case of making something quite complicated appear and sound natural. True original music. True orchestration. Simply a must download."

This has been one of my favorite mods for the past 5 years. Counterpoint really earns his name with this song, with its staccato counterpoint melodies. This song is not only unique in style, but is also an interesting and entertaining listen. It was really hard to classify this song, but the one recurring melody in this song definitely has an Arabic feel to it, so I gave this song a classification that is normally reserved for the worlds of art and interior decor. When I first listened to this song, I thougt that Counterpoint was a god of portamento until I looked at the samples and patterns, and though he does do some pitch slides here and there, I found that instead he is a whiz at sample editing. I also really dig the bass/drum sample (#7). You could probably make a kickin' tune just using that one. For his demonstrated ability to interweave such complex countermelodies, I would have to rate this as a technical masterpiece.

This is a light, happy song that is very addictive, and has a very good mix of differing melodies that keep it interesting. This song was written as the intro for a game, and stands out for its instant catchiness. Song length is 3:01. Karsten Koch selected an ensemble of samples that perfectly intermesh in this tune, and his tracking expertise is evident in the instant likeability of this song. The panning of the bell sample a little over halfway through the song is especially cool.

This is a nice tune. The main beef of the song is a soft acoustic guitar melody. This is backed with some piano and voice strings which gives the song some more emotion to it.The lead is good, not too overpowering which is good for this song I think, although I did find myself waiting for something else to happen, which doesn`t really, apart from a rise in key, but its still quite stirring and worth a download(in my opinion!). Adequate effects for this I would say.Volume manipulation mainly for slide and echo etc.The good thing about this song though, is the general mood and melody created throughout.

Ambient Light is one of two songs by Vogue (the other being Ambient Power) that blends the ambient and techno styles of music into a pulsing and energetic composition. The only drawback is that it is so short at 1 minute 22 seconds, BUT I think Vogue assumed people would have it looping, which is what this song was made for. Vogue is a master composer and tracker, and it is evident from this song. He also has the notability of being the main developer of the tracking program FastTracker, and exploited its capabilites in making this song. This is also a good song to use as a tracking tutorial, with its many uses of effects like pattern breaking. Note that this song does not play correctly in WinAmp.

This is one of the all time best 4 channel mods. I sets a mood of determination and implacability, and is almost infinitely replayable. This mod was made in 1990, and I still listen to it at least once daily! This song stands out along with Freefall (also by Baroque), Stardust Memories by Jester, and Blue Stars by Blackstar/Timetraveller as exemplary OldSkool tunes. The only downfall to this tune is its repetetiveness, despite the buildup during the intro. Playing time of this song is 3:04. Only three effects are used throughout this mod - volume change, tempo change, and pattern jump. Effects aren't that necessary, however, since the samples alone are what make this mod; they are clear and well matched synths. The vox sample is especially cool (#5). Again, this mod was made in 1990, and was pretty cutting edge for its time.

Here we have a mod from the year '90. It is quite normal module from that time : Simple, but it has something that makes it sound like a music with only 4 channels. This one represents the kind of song that makes both sad and happy which is a good thing. Overall this song has pretty much potential. As a module it could be little improved, but someone would also have an excellent "re-tracking"-project from here.=) Ask permission, retrack it nicely and I give at least 9.=) Samples are nice. Drums are in 1 track ,but still sound good and that again gives more space to other samples like strings. Some echoing here might have been good idea since strings mostly keep 2 channels and so the leadsample sounds pretty lonely sometimes. Textures are ok and the little amount of effects that has been used are used good enough. This track is for easymodulelovers.=)

I'm not sure about the classification of this song since this one is more than just pop, but near enough.=)Nice and promising intro starts this song and it raises into chorus which includes a catchy melody that still plays in my mind. The whole song is filled with superb pianotextures and -fills, lovely strings, effective drums and violins that sounded veeeery good when heard well. Among these there are many other things that makes this song one of the best pop-tunes I've heard. Only thing why I didn't gave this a pure 10 is that it didn't gave me those "chills".=)Get this and hear how it sounds to ride on sunbeams... Not so much effects used than I thought when I heard this one for the first time, but this one doesn't need more of them.=) Excellent panning. Melodies are created without mistakes and soundworld is pure and clean. Samples are both 8 and 16 bits. Total lenght of this song 4.09 which is perfect. It was nice to listen just 1 channel at a time and finally wonder that how this artist can make something like this. A must download for everyone. I'll go now and get some more of this artist's songs.=)

The module comment says it's a house/trance music peice. It doesn't seem to be so: not too monotonous for trance and not too melodic/rythmic for house. The harmony is pretty simple to be considered good even for house, no harmonical modulations at all, the music is emotionless even in its rythm section. The author used some difference in volume of the instruments at the very beginning, but then - oh my God! - all the volume settings become static!I do hate this! As for panning, it is notificable only in the crash cymbal, one channel is surrounded, everything else is centered. Why then use IT with instrument mode on? As a better music compressor than Scream tracker or Fast tracker? Samplepack. High quality, but you see, I'm sick of unedited in some way ***TR909 CLAP***!!! Maybe in 99% of music existing nowadays, taking into consideration all the music created since 1900, there is CLEAR TR909 HAND CLAP! With some reverb sometimes, alright. Mr. Dj Rauter, if you're a Dj, where are some cool samples? As for the vocal samples, I could not hear most of them in the song... Standard 4/4 beat. The largest part of the module are vocal samples, most of which are overnoised by the bass drum. So, nothing inventative or interesting, one of the most primitive harmonies, no dynamical progressions. It's a house/trance module, but a satisfactory one.

This song represents the style of simple beauty. It is not complex or filled with great solos or anything, but simple drums, bass and lovely strings. First it raises into hights and then it starts to fly in the sky. I really like the chords in this piece and the athmosphere is something "touchable". I also liked the windbells that blend to strings quite well and give something special to the song. Once again it is proved, that when there really are some strong feelings behind the song, it sounds good, without millions of effects or 16 bit samples. I guess that this piece will ever need any effects more than there is since it works anyway. Drums are very simple and that is propably the only thing that left me that "somethings missing here"-feeling, but it doesn't sound bad this way either. This track played about 30 minutes in a row, and I didn't got bored to it. Worth trying at least. Nice job.

A little more faster dancesong this time. Near trance in some points and in others it sounds a bit like old Scooter's happy hardcore. There are couple of samples that annoy me, and those are played a lot and also on high volume.=/ So minus from that. Good thing is that there are some musical turns in this one and so the song doesn't feel too long. (3.26) Normal duration. Funny thing is that the sounds always better when only few channels are used. When the song is really running it does not convince me. Weird. Nothing special to complain or flatter about. Those 2 samples I would remove, but otherwise this is pretty basic stuff. Some panning used but besides that there is not much effects used. Nice textures in some points, and strings in one "turn" sound pretty much like "new year".=)

Um...*scratch scratch* I don't know that is this song good or bad, but it is hilarious.=) It represents the style of early 90's eurodance on its most simple way. Musically it reminds me of Whigfield. You know. Drums, bass, strings and some background bleeps etc. but then there are these vocals, that make me smile.=) There is propably very much ambition in them and in this whole song, but first of all the samplequality in vocals is bad the singer... Little more practise ok? =) Worth downloading perhaps.=) As told, the structure is a basic dancestylestructure. Intro, raise, chorus, raise, chorus, intermission, raise, chorus x 10 ,outro. So that part is ok. Samples... Strings are ok,but could be better and use of them could also be more imaginative. I also would like to hear somthing on the background more like some sort of bleep-, poing- etc.samples. Everything else is ok. Use of effects.. What is that? Download this to turn a bad day into a good one.=)

The beginning sounds good. Electricguitar roams nicely but then the piece turns out to be "not-so-pro". But this one has potential too. Leadguitars sound good in a musical way, but the technical side should be improved.Drums are not that good, and that nice guitar in the beginning is played too much during the song, what i'm trying to say is that background is simple and same all the time allthough there is a faster part in this song too... Promising song, but tracking needs more practice. Samplequality is pretty low. Drums actually sound bad to me. Especially hihats which are too noisy. Maybe bolder use of tracks would be a good idea here, since there is many free channels, but still 4example bassdrum and snares are on the same track, more effects to the game, vibras to the leadguitars and so on and someday the artists might create a song much more worth than 5.5.=)

The intro in this piece sounds nice. I was just waiting that the song would really begin. Then it begins and... I get disappointed.=/ One of those boring and repetitive pieces that goes nice on the background, but will bore you if you start to listen it. There is some variation, but basically the whole song sounds to play the same patterns with just a little differences. The worst thing is that this one is damn long one. 7 (!) minutes. Try to hold on if you try this one... Tracking an textures are ok, but the artist prpably had some lack of inspiration since this song is pretty lame. Sounds like that he/she had couple of hours time to create a 7 minute long tune. Result ain't so good, but someone likes oldstyle modules, then why not try this one. Can't loose anything else but some time. No effects to mention and samples are...umm.. well, basic?.

This one sounds somehow a bit like Craftwerk. That ain't a bad sign right? Well, maybe in late 70's or somewhere there this might have been much better, but now... Naah. Artist propably is a pro since he has a page in mp3.com and this is an 8 bit version, but this track does not convince me. There are nice sounding vocals included and those actually fit in their places and give little more "fill" to this piece. Pretty repetitive since there is the one basic background and one melody. Lenght : A bit over 3 minutes which is perfect. For old fashion electrolovers this is a good choice. Samples are pretty simple and modest, but vocals are good. Those actually sound like that someone has been sung 'em.=) Yeah, anyway... Use of effects is careful and small, but I guess that this kind of music needs simplicity and not playing with effects. Not a bad piece afterall...

this was noa nakai's entry in Assembly 2001, and won 3rd place for it. its one of my favorite techno songs; interestingly it sounds influenced by Purple motion's sine-wave masterpiece, "Satellite One". Well, you can't blame someone for being influenced by Purple Motion. This song really is awesome in the beginning, promising great things later on in the song, and it absolutely and completly delivers the goods around 1:35. WORDS CANNOT DESCRIBE HOW AMAZING THIS SONG IS. The first 1:35 of the song is essentially variations on the same theme, where different instruments take a shot on the whole "Hovering thru" idea, and the overlap and interplay is brilliant, and the pads wonderfully complement his ideas. Then, around 1:16, there is a bridge that connects the introduction with the main section at 1:35. There is alot of "up and down" between the sine leads which work very well, similar to "Satellite One". I think the song ended a little short, and lacks any real exiting phrase, but I suspect their was a time limit constraint on entries into the asm compo. In short, this is one of the best mods I've EVER heard, etc.... Go download it and you will see what I'm talking about. Download this because you will see what a perfectly polished song is. This song is simple enough that bad samples and slightly less than perfect use of effects could have ruined most of it, but the composition sounds so good, you would not believe it was a mod. This song is so slickly polished, the polish alone makes it worth downloading. Just download this song, you will not believe your ears.

Yeeps. Very old sounding module we have here. Boring? Yes. Long? Yes.Nice. Actually the melody sounds like that this might be a cover from some song, but I can't tell. First 2 minutes repeats the few almost same patterns, then comes the change (little one) and then this song continues on and on again with almost same patterns. I really waited this to end. Sounds maybe different but it also makes this song sound a bit messy. Naah, no effects, patterns are pretty much the same, no surprises, no catchy melody.Just another dull module overall. This song lives up to it`s title, though it would even more if they`d called it Eastwood, as the hypnotic chimes through the song conjure up images of a certain Clint Eastwood movie. The song is very listenable and does have some very nice pan pipe melodies which capture the mood. The song is quite short but that does stop from becoming repetitive. Nice use of panning on the chimes and the pipes are also panned.Very deep bass drums add to the eerieness of the song. The pipes and chimes mix well though they do sound a bit like a doorbell(as chimes do).The guitars are maybe the only down but that`s maybe just being picky.

The artist is a total psycho. I mean he/she can track, but then...then he/she freaks out, turns tracking into repeat and drives the listener crazy. First the song sounds ok, actually Jarre came into my head in some points, melody perhaps, but then the almost same melody and background is played for 5 (!) minutes in a row. MY GOD it was an awful experience! And after that 5 mins, there is a liiittle change and then there is this "final" where the same 1 pattern is played maany times in a row including too high and too annoying leadsample. Most horrifying ending. Well. Nothing technical, some slides and thats it. Samples are normal synth samples and sound ok, except for the last leadsample that manages to sound like someone is vacuuming a cat. Nice song if played 'bout 2 mins or so, but this way I really would like to give this one a 1.0 ,but I'm so **cking fair, that I give some mercy this time. I was yesterday driving with my car when I heard a song from the radio that sounded pretty much like this, it sounded pretty amateurish and even the dj said that he can't tell what to think about the song. This one has some build-up movements, but it doesn't build itself as high as it should.Pretty repetitive, but since this piece of music does not represent any popular style, it is quite easy to listen it to the end. Maybe good, maybe bad. Figure it out yourself. Sample that creates the "melody" is pretty nice selection to this track, but it is hard to use in many ways, which can be heard. I liked the strings with arpeggios, those sounded ok and those also included the only effects in the song to mention.=) Only thing that annoyed me was hihats and crash cymbal. Crash is used too much in my opinion and hihat is played too loud. I bothered me, but maybe not you. Try this, just in case you like it somehow.

Why did people create and compose this kind of stuff? I mean the idea is good it even sounds good when listening from vinyl, but from tracker with 4 channels? Nope - not enough stamina. Basic housemix with these "aye","get on" and so-on-samples. Repetitive bassdrum/hihat loop and vocal in the beginning starts to piss you off soon. Only thing that was good in my opinion was a part in the end where is a part of some Technotronic.=) Not much to write here. No effects used, samplequality ain't that good that should be mentioned, the song ain't hard to track if you have listened some old techno/housemusic in your past days. Not much trying in this one, no new musical solutions or innovative effects that would make this at least worth 4 points. Too bad, once again.

Drums were extremely nice, different comparing to many other trancetunes and bassline was nice. Hypnotizing in its simple and plain way. I waited some strings maybe to the end so it would have sounded more "massive" but noooo.. Too bad. Excellent track anyway.=) All samples are 16-bit so this one sounds very pure and professional. This song is a remake of the same title by A-HA in 1993. The artist has done a very good job of capturing the mood of the song as well as the music. This is one of those songs that you can listen to after a rough time, and it will help you to relax. All in all, it was well done, and quite enjoyable. There are a couple of things that kept me from giving this song a higher rating. While the piano samples are very crisp and clear, there is a point about 1/3 of the way into the song that the volume just drops, it is a little distracting. Also, it would have been nice if it could have faded to the end, instead of cutting off abruptly. On the plus side, however, the timing is kept impeccably, and the samples are just fantastic, and the download size is great for the amount of music you get. Keep up the good work!

For the people who spend time on the dancefloor, this is an excellent piece of music. It gives you the mood, that you dance and you have this floating feeling when your eyes are shut and you just let the music take you... Very good sounding track overall but as always, I find also something to complain about.=) From the beginning the song stars good but after a while I started to wait for something else, so somehow it sounded a bit lame. Somewhere around 1.30 the song changes a bit and again it sounds great.=) Worth downloading for everyone who likes trance and people who don't should maybe try it, because it ain't SO trance.=) Looove the samples.:) Very clean athmosphere and soundworld. Most of the samples are 8-bit ,but that hasn't been an obstacle for the artist. Panning is used very well and the rest of the effects are on place. Samples are selected in a way, that there is no sound or a sample in the song that bothers or gets into your ear in a bad way. Nice textures after 1.30 and.... Well. What can I say. Different but short... But the reason to it is that this song is a part of a demo so it can't last hours. Good one. Veery nice soundworld. Acid-kind-of samples, breakbeats and srtings. A howling wind, the bass, the (substitute :P) trumpet.... reminds me of that 'Chariots of Fire' theme. Cool! A big problem with this song; however, is its length and its abrupt ending. Some more background synths and more variation, maybe? Not a bad one overall, though. Nice feeling of victory to it. Well, this track has some definite potential, if the artist used 16 bit samples and if only I knew who the artist is, 'cause this is a professional 4-channel mod! The chords themselves are quite simple, and no real special effects were used, but that doesn't hurt the song a bit. Quite nice.

Ballad part is so boring musically that something can be, but vocals eventually made me laugh - those are so god damn bad! =) And in the end this so beautiful ballad turns into awful part of trashmetal and in this part it also becomes clear that the artist does not respect women. Technically this song is also bad. Vocals are ridiculous, piano, drums etc. are oldsounding 8 bit samples. No effects, no nothing. I guess the mainpoint in this one has been the idea of the song and if it would have been carried out decently it might have been good, but now? No way. Worth listening only, because it is so awful that it makes you maybe laugh.

A short tune with nothing special to say really. Pretty boring piece of music with strings, drums and guitars. Nylon guitar sounds ok, but the melodies could be better. Electric guitar sounds very lame, but happily it is only played in the end.=) Well, I guess that's pretty much there. 8 bit sounds, no real effects, simple textures and unimaginative. But hey, we can't all be Awesomes in the beginning. Just keep on tracking and some day you'll get a much better grade.=) Right way has already been found. ;) Boring.

This track certainly lives up to its name. It's not a tune at all, but rather a little slice of insanity. In that respect, it's fun and amusing, but not something you'd be likely to play twice. Technically bare, with samples apparently used like blunt tools. The desired effect is acheived but without much fanfare or grace. Technical skill isn't, however, important to this track, and no really a factor in evaluation. It was obviously made for fun.

A very short piece at only 54 seconds, but serves its purpose well. Well written, with a nice funky bassline, it's as smooth as premium European beer. Clear samples float around nicely to keep your interest. It's well cut together, with few flaws. A couple of the samples are a little scrappy, but still a league above most.

Reminiscent of every console RPG from Zelda to Final Fantasy, Terranigma has it all - melancholy strings, dulcet clarinets, ever glockenspiels. I can just see the scrolling text on a 240x180 resolution screen informing me of the heroic journey I am about to embark upon. It's very nice, in a SNES kind of way. There's very little to complain about, decent samples carry a solid tune, though the clarinet seems a little incongruous and synthetic.

This has a great intro. Reminiscent of the soundtrack of Virgin Games' "Dune", it builds up to a rumbling bassline and unusual percussion. There's definately a masterful control of sound. It lacks melody, but that's not the point - which is the mesmerising rythym. The scratched CD-style skips are a good touch. If there's one gripe I have, it is that just when you expect it to burst into life, it trails off into silence. The technical aspects of the song are fine. It's laid back and competent, with no audible flaws, no dodgy samples. The vocals are will implemented but superfluous.
