This song reminds of a music box. It's a very simple little 4 channel mod with a real light sound to it. i'm not that big of a fan of sweet little songs like that, but if i was, i think i'd like this one. there isn't much behind this song. there's a few volume slides, but that's it on effects. the instrument playing the melody sounds pretty good, but the violin sample sounds pretty poor.

This song really impressed me, and i don't even like jazz-music :) i don't know if you've ever played the old game "transport tycoon" ? anyhow, this song really reminded me of the music from that game. if you like jazz, there's no doubt you'll love this song! incredible drums, great bass, and kickass melodies! Samples put together by both 16bit and 8bit samples, all sounding perfect together. Nothing to complain about here! just go download this great jazz-track!

I've heard a cpl of songs by archangel before, and i really enjoyed them, as i did with this one aswell! it's a really soft song. contains no drums. just flutes, strins and piano, but still... everything fits together with perfect harmony. After about 3 minutes in the song, a pianomelody starts, which you can just listen to over and over again. another great song from archangel! The song contains mostly 8bit instruments, but also a cpl of 16bit. no matter what, ArchAngel sure knows what he's doing.

This song reminds me of the music for Wolfenstein 3d, but a little bit softer. not bad though. the panning in this one sounds real nice, and so does the intro. there's one part at the end where everything just stops. but the bad part is it just stops for a bit too long, so it doesn't sound good.

This is a pretty simple little song. It's got a nice sound to it, and it's pretty upbeat overall. The piano plays a heavy roll in that. even though it's in the background for most of the song, the fact that it's all major chords played makes it sound happy. It's fairly good. like i said, it's a simple little song. not too much behind the effects portion of this song, but there's enough to make it sound good. the samples are done really well also.

This song's pretty cool! the sound of it reminds me so much of the game burgertown (or burgertime... something like that) for the old nintendo! give it a listen this little 6 channel mod has plenty behind it! for so few channels, everything still flows together very nicely. lots of effects in here, and i like how the ending is written in order to be able to flow right back into the beginning.

This song has a really nice beat, and just sounds really good all around! the vocals sound very cool in this one too! and also along with having the nice beat, it's also a very soft piece overall, so it's a good song to just sit and listen to. good job! once again, very nice panning in this song. also very nice effects and envelopes. the samples all sound very well done. i also like how the vocals are what ends the song. it gives it a real nice touch.

This is another little happy dance song. it's done pretty well though. the sound of it is very nice. it all flows together pretty well. it's good if you're looking for something to move dance too obviously. the panning's done pretty nice, and so are the volume envelopes, but there's not much more to the song as far as tech goes. it's a pretty basic piece, but it does sound ok.

i think this would be disco... either that, or it's one of those bands that plays in the bars of hotels late at night that no one really wants to hear anyway... no, the song sounds ok. it just reminds me of the hotel band from the Blues Brothers for some reason. nothing really special here. the samples are pretty much just played as is. the extent of effects for this song really is just some volume envelopes and set panning positions. that's about it though.

It's a very calming song. It's got a nice easy beat, and the instruments sound pretty good together. The flute gives a relaxing feeling, while the percussions keep a nice steady pace as well. there's a few effects in here, but not anything special really. the part of the beat that sets the timing for the song though sounds just like a metronome going back and forth, and gets a little too constant. other than that, it's not that bad.

This mod is another happy dance song. It's got a nice beat though, and it has a good sound to it as well. i especially like the opening synth sound. it's got a nice touch to it. LOTS of volume playing. i know that most of it is probably copy & paste (cuz it would be insane to sit there and redo the same exact thing so many times), but it gives a nice sound that makes you want to move. it's a the ending is a little on the down though. it's the exact same pattern as the others, but slower. if that last pattern were shortened it'd be better then.

A nice little tune. It sounds a lot like a classic rock song or something along those lines. It gets a little repetitive though, but it doesn't make you hate the song or anything. other than that, it's a decent song. A lot of panning in here, and a lot of volume slides. i like the drumset used in here, and the bassline is really well done as well. if the lead guitar on this was altered a bit, it would make the song even better though.

Crap!! this song is great!!! that's about the best way to say it! the song is just awesome! the music behind this song was very well thought out, and looks to have taken a hell of a time to write out., but it was definitely worth it!! if you're reading this, then you should download the song!! although it may be fairly large in size, it's still definitely worth it! There's so much stuff that happens in this song, it's hard to say where to start! the panning of this song is beautiful!! the envelopes and effects used give it a three dimensional sound, the samples are all good and high quality, and the whole thing in general sounds like it was professionally done! the best way to describe this song is to say download it, and then listen for yourself!! it is DEFINITELY worth the time!

I think this is probably one of the best piano pieces i've heard yet! everthing flows together very nicely, and the violin here gives the whole song a very well-rounded sound. there are a lot of volume and speed effects in this song to give it the proper tune. the samples also sound fairly good... all two of them! which is another good thing of this song is that it's so small and quick to download, which is what you should be doing for this one!!

This piano piece is done very well. it reminds me of a piano recital actually, except one where the people playing actually have talent. It flows very nicely and smoothly all thoughout the song. It has a good start and end to it: both flow very nicely. there's not much in the effects part though. one channel's surround, but that's about it, but it is a piano piece and nothing major, so no effects are really needed anyway. it sounds good without them.

This piece has a very "utopian" sound to it; The musical themes are very original and employee very interesting rythms and harmonies. Structurally, these themes are fantastic. However, this novelty fades after the first minute of the piece. Instead of musically progressing towards other themes or building towards a crescendo, this song chooses to repeat the familiar beat and theme; This quickly tarnishes the bright potential of this piece Although suffering from the "8-bit sample syndrome," this piece uses many tempo changes, pans, and volume slides. Overall, the technics employeed are not fantastically advanced, nor boringly simplistic. They enhance the piece appropriately.

Title: After The End

This tune creates an effective and spooky, otherwordly atmosphere. After the end of what, I wonder? The end of the world, perhaps? The melody played out in a soft flute is very laid back, not really drawing attention to itself. The percussion is tight and effective, yet also quite relaxed. Quiet organ-like chords in the background help to fill the audio field - very spooky, and the main reason the atmospherics work so well in this piece. The mood changes slightly at the end - the percussion is lost, the chords take over, complimented by the flute. Definitely signalling an end, but not exactly with a bang! AKA is one of the masters of the professional sounding mod, in my opinion. This comes in part from his excellent samples, which are clear, vibrant, tight and sharp. The percussion is excellent, and the various sounds and effects work extremely well together. The only downside to this piece is the rather annoying synchopated "ticking" sound which dominates certain sections of the piece (e.g. 1:58 to 2:45). That knocks at least a point off the score for this piece!

This is almost like two separate pieces which have been joined together - whether you think it works or not depends on your outlook. Personally, I love it. It starts off with spacey chords and space chatter, sending you on a journey past the stars, before bringing you down to Earth with a bang... and a Caribbean percussion!! Awesome describes the reason behind his choice of genre change here, and personally I think it works well, primarily because it retains the same overall chords as the introduction. But the best part is left until the end, where we return to space, and some of the best chord sequences I've heard in a mod file - really emotional stuff. Brilliant. There is little to fault here. The introduction is inspired, and the chords and space chatter work very well together to create the appropriate mood. The transition in the tribal centre section is handled well (it could have been a disaster!), and the transition back to the final chords is excellent. The whole piece has a really professional edge to it, which like many of Awesome's pieces wouldn't sound out of place on a commercial CD.

Musically, this piece shines. The rhythm and bass remind me of an old computer game I used to play, and it certainly gets your heart racing. Awesome knows how to use chords effectively and here he combines them with an absolutely stunning melody which literally had me turning the volume up as high as I could, eyes shut, being carried along with the artist's obvious enthusiasm for the piece. This isn't really dance music - it's "listen" music, demanding your attention through its obvious melody. I think the worst parts of this song are the introduction and ending - rather cliched and a little unimaginative, but that doesn't detract too much from the piece. Instrument definition isn't as good as some of Awesome's other works, and the percussion could sound a little tighter. Other than lacking in high definition clarity, the mix works well and the piece sounds quite professional.

I really enjoy this song, even though it can be repetitive to the point of tedious, towards the end. There is a strong, insidious rhythm section which dominates throughout and stays in your head long after the song has finished. It also put me in mind of certain songs from the 80s, primarily by Coldcut. Definitely worth a listen. At 3mn36s the song could do with shortening, or the addition of more variation. The samples used are good and utilised well. The unknown tracker clearly has a lot of talent. Please Note: This song appears in the archive 3 times using 3 different file names. This review will also appear with wir.mod, while hippos.mod is reviewed by someone else. I elected to review this song, despite it already being reviewed, as a way of giving a contrast to the opinions about it.

This is a remix of Tone Loc's Funky Cold Medina. It doesn't use any of Loc's vocals, instead opting for some weird shit about falling down. :) The track is put together very well and my only real quibble is that it's not long enough! Oh and keep an ear out midway through for a riff from one of the songs on Jeff Wayne's seminal War of the Worlds double LP. At only 1mn57s this song is far too short. The tracker makes great use of stereo seperation but there isn't any panning, which is a shame because there are so many things that would've sounded cooler with panning. The scratching effect he gets with some of the vocals is great and the way he creates and uses the War of the Worlds riff is superb. Alas, the ending needed a few more minutes work and it's suckyness prevents me from giving the track a 10.

This song is originally done by the infamous Barnes and Barnes. I haven't heard the original but I imagine this is a pretty faithful conversion to the mod format. If you're a fan of Dr Demento, you've probably heard this already, so you'll know what to expect. If you've never heard of Dr Demento but you are a fan of Weird Al, you might like this song. Spike Milligan fans -- listen now! A lot of fun and well worth a listen. :) Oh and in case you didn't know, one half of Barnes and Barnes is Billy (Babylon 5, Lost in Space) Mumy. The song goes for 3mn09s but the last 1mn50s is the chorus repeated over and over. As I said above, I've never heard the original, so I don't know if that version finishes the same way but regardless, it's damn annoying. The samples are all mono and are presumably lifted straight from the orignal recording but they are put together very nicely. I would've given the song a 10, if it wasn't for the way it ends.

This is a fantastic remix of the Karsten Koch chip tune (the best of about 4 that I have seen pop up) into a spectacular techno tour de force. Rock on, DJ Bourg! Let's hear another one this good, please! Great samples, great organization, heck, just plain great period! I've listened to all sorts of techno, some better than others, and this is by far among the best. The most amazing part of all this is the file size is still around 100k.

This tune is a bit repetitive and short but other than that it's not too bad. With a little reworking, it might work well as the title tune to a game called "Aliens Ate My Disco Band" or something along those lines. Good samples and good use of them. It's fairly a small module but the samples don't scream "this is a chip tune" at you. The only strange thing is the ending makes the song sound like it's designed to loop, and it doesn't.

This is about a minute (actually Winamp says 53 seconds) of a spookyish background with this sample of a news reporter saying "the effective forces used electronic jamming devices" over and over again. Maybe it wasn't intended as music. I don't know. It's a cute spooky background sound, and you can understand the news reporter sample. Other than that, this is yawnville. Maybe someone can remix this into the start of a good song.

The only real beef I have about this piece is the length: Winamp claims it's 2 minutes, 35 seconds long. It would have been nice if it was just a bit longer (another minute would have been a good start). Other than that, it's a well done light rock number. If nothing else, great "on hold" music. All the samples sounded great, and were used very well. I especially like the use of the arpeggio effect. This one almost made me forget it was an "old school" Protracker mod until I looked again. I haven't seen a definition of "chip tune" so I'm not sure if there's an official size limit, but this one is a great example of how to pack a lot into a mere 42k (unzipped). Wow!

This is an okay little tune. The beat is good, and it has at least a decent melody, so it's a definite keeper. It might make good background music for a game with a few minor changes. Well, first realize this is a Protracker mod from 1992, so the samples are going to be deficient in overall quality compared to modern modules with 16-bit samples (it could well have been done on an Amiga for all I know). The sample going most against this tune is the guitar, which is bordering on hideous at times. The use of the car crash sample and the laughing sample are both rather original, if a bit overdone. The rest are pretty good given when it was made.

Everything was put together quite professionally. all the instruments and sound blend in quite well together. The drums are awesome.
