This is a more recent protracker-created module I composed while having a bit of a nostalgia trip on my old amiga, it's using ripped samples from the Andromeda Multica demo (music by Mr Man). The tune itself is based off one of my own studio compositions called Retrospective, and it's an orchestral piece - this is quite a different style altogether :)

Very well done as for amiga modules, i listened this on Winamp (!) and understand *.mod have 4 channels. I hear 2 channels on the left, and two ones on the right (standard settings). I have to imagine how this song could sound when it's made in ST, IT, FT etc. with advanced effects. Pure samples. I take these things into consideration (not etirely) during setting rating. Fine springy optimistic mod.

Overall Impression (7/10)

Good composition, good melodies, and a nice beat make up this song. It does get a little repetitive at times, but some cool, catchy parts mend that somewhat. Some samples sound a bit annoying like the lead that starts out the song (sounds like somebody saying “dah”). The sample isn’t long enough; it just cuts off really quickly (especially in the high notes). That gives a not so good impression at the beginning, but the rest is better.

Technique, Arrangement, Composition (8/10)

It’s hard to cram enough stuff into a 4 channel mod to make it full, but the artist did a good job of it. There are still a few thin sounding parts, but overall it’s a full song. The panning doesn’t really bother me. Maybe if I was using headphones it would be different, but I’m not. So there! :) I like the addition of the acoustic guitar samples near the end. I also really like sample 6 (quick horn hit) and how it’s used. The parts at 0:30 and 0:41 are a nice touch. I especially like how they go back into the main chord progression. That’s pretty catchy. Good toms, too.

Development (6/10)

The melodies in this song aren’t as diverse as I would have hoped. The parts at 0:30, 0:41, and 0:51 are different and nice, but the rest are a bit monotonous. The guitar basically repeats what the “dah” sample played. Good work with the background. I like the bass, strings, and other little knickknacks that come along for the ride.

Creativity (8/10)

This is very creative work. The drums themselves are slow, but the rest is upbeat and faster. It has touches of reggae, funk, and other genres. It has that "m0d" feel to it! :)

Enjoyment (6/10)

As I said, the melodies aren’t as diverse as they could be, so the replay value isn’t the best. There are some parts that could be memorable, but the song itself is a bit too boring to listen to over and over again.

Additional Comment

I would like to hear more of these kinds of songs! Maybe even on a more than 4 channel tracker! If your 4 channel mods sound this full, just imagine a 10 channel mod! Keep it up! :)
