This is one of Mellow D's really nice pieces, ethereal and varying soundscapes crossed with an upbeat backing which really sets a nice mood for the 7 minutes it lasts. It can get a little repetative but as chillout music it's not that detrimental. Recommended

This piece has been hidden on the archive since it was uploaded back in 2000 because for some reason or other it never got indexed. Now it's here on the new site - you can have a listen :) It's quite an interest piece, Vangelis-ish lead with a mellow underpinning backing which really doesn't go anywhere however it helps set the mood. Quite enjoyable - i'm the 8th downloader of this one so far :)

The collection of modules on the archive by Felix Lindgren are some of my favourites. It's obvious where the inspiration comes from especially when mentioned in the sample texts: game soundtracks composed by the composer of Final Fantasy (Nobu Uematsu). This track is worth the listen if you fancy some game soundtrack-like music :) Very good

For a mild and melodic newage ballad, this fits the bill nicely. It's theme is wonderfully set, the melodies are quite similar to that of some Japanese anime chronicles yet are distinctivly western when it comes to the rest of the accompinant. A pleasant tune if you're in the mood for something slow and thematic.

Ahahahahaha another slap-in-the-face-tongue-in-cheek track, nice that slammy is back on top of things wrt tracking - comical and whimsicle melodies and some fine cheesy progressions. The gabber-ish section does my head, well done! :D

Takes over a minute to warm up, when it does it's quite a nice, the crunch guitar samples are a bit naff but the rest is alright, most noteworthy would be the elec guitar lead melodies that come after 2mins, nicely panned aswell :)

What an odd combination of instruments - Far Eastern, Asian and electronica with dashes of glitch core and new age all mixed in a very nice serving of a song - the flute is lovely - I wonder where did that idea come from? :P :) Overall, technically and compositionally impressive - a recommended download.

This is a chip version of christmas song, Jingle bells. Competantly tracked, even has an original intro, mid section and an ending. The fact the Jingle Bells (original) IS repetative should not detract from the quality of this module. The so-called review attached to this module has been removed for "seriously poor" quality reasons. Let someone else have a go instead.

I dont agree with the review on this module. For a start, there is no bass line. No bass instrument to juxtapose the so-called melody with - which, because it's using 5th notes makes the melody seem out of tune. This is a terrible rape of the beautiful song by Vangelis. Shockingly subjective review score (7). Not objectivly reviewed at all.

Aha. Enter Oldskool demostyle (possibly ripped from an Amiga demo). This piece is clearly from around the early 90's, as the sound of it just screams "demoscene". To be perfectly honest this module will probably be extremely apt at satisfying your taste for a little nostalgia if you were in the scene at that time. The melodies are superb and variation is something I can't complain about here. An overall length of nearly 7 minutes is more than you should be shaking a stick at. Perhaps described genre-wise as a mix of funk and doskpop(?), with synthetic overtones from the 90's. The only one thing I would probably notice is that the key/chord progression throughout is fairly monotonous, however there is probably enough variation going on in the other areas to quench the attention span of most. Overall, extremely cool, nicely made and very listen-able. I'd recommend this for a download-to-keep. I've had this one in my personal collection since the mid 90's. It's easy to tell that the module is old. It's 4 channel protracker format, and that means you've gotta give credit where it's due for bringing off a superb piece of demostyle music given the hardware limitations of the system it was created on. The sample quality is excellent, a lot of the samples are from the "ST-xx" disk collection, which for the period was the most common (if not, the only) source of good samples for modules. The use of tracked (real time) effects in the module is also astoundingly proficient, so the musician who created this certainly knew what they were doing with trackers (FYI: Bjorne Lynne, Dr Awesome).

A Trance take on Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, well for the first minute anyway, interluded by a minor keyed piece until it eventually returns to the first part's theme again, then speeding up (and repeating) until *blam* - it ends. Unfortunately, there's no second verse of the original song incorporated, which is a bit disappointing because it could have made the song an overall christmassy thing to listen to, as it is though the theme doesn't really drive the song far enough and sounds fairly generic in it's genre. Overall, musically enjoyable but I wouldn't expect it to have much replay appeal. The ending does kind of put me off, it's cliche and sounds rushed. The bassline is reasonably good, although I think one of the notes chosen with the chords is a bit iffy, but for a fun piece of music this is enjoyable. The drums and percussion are well suited to the style and an admirable change of pace occurs in the aforementioned interlude. However, they don't do much else and end up just riding the song out until the end. Overall, amicably composed, I can tell already that this musician is already progressing with each release. Focal points would be concentrating on ending the compositions properly, the method used in this one to be quite blunt; sucks.

Indeed trance-style but indeed does not follow the all too familiar happy-trance progressions, some of this are different. The majority of this is played in arpeggioed synth stabs and syncopated splats of cheese trance-lead-saw samples. The overall result is actually quite a pleasant and a nice touch is the koto sample and occasional orchestral grafts, however, where the heck is the bass?!

Enter the cheese. The bass is weak in this, it's all midrange - I hope Saga can sometime try and listen to his stuff on flat equipment (no EQ, no subs) to get the idea here. The song is all ok up until the lead comes in at which point I had to stop it because a) it resonated the crap out of my speakers and b) gave me a headache. This had potential but I feel it's just been blown out by that.

Christ. This is one heck of a megasamplefest of spoken vocals with industrial electronica type accompinant breaks. Excellent in production terms, just a bit "out there" for my taste, also wonder how some of the samples are come by - some sound like clips of film music (the string cresendos?). Overall if you're into the darker and disturbing forms of music this is probably one for you. Not me thou.

Very cute chip tune. Author says it's a cover of some anime series title, I don't watch anime so i have no idea, it's a good little ditty the only major downside being it's length. It's meant to be looped but you can only loop it so many times before getting bored.

Interesting. Rather a nice fruity mix, good progression, variation is a little thin in parts but there are plenty of interludes that mix in some spice to liven it up again. The breaks are good, the overall execution is good and this gives you a pleasant module to listen to a few times. Recommended.

Ok, giving that this piece is from circa 1999, we can excuse the piano sample (these days it's overly used). The piece is well executed for a piano module although it does eventually lose itself in repetativeness. The half hearted attempt at accompnant only goes halfway to show that this one would eventually burn it's wick and flicker out. Which it does just after 2 minutes.

This is trance. Layered with drums, built up with an intense bassline arpeggio and sound effect percussion. The bassline is a bit on the repetative side, then again this is typical of it's genre. I didn't like it that much, it stays in the same key (on the same note) all the way through. It's just over 3 minutes in length which is just as well, because any more of this and i'd have had to stop.

Rave? I'd be more inclined to call it demostyle electronica. The piece starts out with some interesting sound effect arrangements. Introducing the main theme and eventually the bass/lead that plays a bit too intensly raspy for my taste, unfortunatly this arpeggiated lead destroys the rest of the mix by overpowering the drumming and, well, everything else. A good effort, but repetative.

Ah, great. Finally a module that has vocals that don't terribly suck like so many others do. At least they're *mostly* in tune and are intergrated comfortably in the track. The music isn't great - it's typical dance music of the 90's era type. Not bad but not awesome enough to warrant a 9 imho, so it's getting an 8 from me.

An excellent little ditty semi-chippy module :) I found it via the random mod picker. It's a bit short coming in at just over 1:12 and it appears to require looping, so you could run this indefintily. Kinda sounds like menu music for a game. Good quality and by a well known artist (distance).

Repetitive and annoying. The The vocal sample "evacuation" starts to grate after the first 30 seconds or so of the song. The melody continues on a monotonous voyage through repetition and dissonant bass lines and suddenly blurts out and ending, well, no actual ending. It just stops. To improve this, I would recommend avoiding vocal samples as the 'lead' in this case, and take a more active approach to developing melodies and harmonic coordination between bass, chords and the melody in all. Technically, from the looks of it, this module is pretty simply made, if there was room to improve it would be to get to grips with the tracker software and unleash it's potential. But before that is done, improvements mentioned in the musical rating section need to be addressed. Unfortunately in this case the potential is grossly missed and I'm afraid the score will reflect this. Better luck next time eh? :)

Another robric tune - this is one of the better ones, but, as usual hardly tracker mastery, just plain sample-trigger on/off technique, only a couple of pitch slides noticed. I get the impression that this could have been executed better, seems rather rushed. The melody is played by a sample thats been around for decades and the way its been used just underpins my critique. About Average.

Weird. I guess this is some form of minimalist ambient electronic music, it's quite common in Johan Alpmars stuff, it sometimes borders randomness but sometimes these little tracks are quite playful to have on in the background. Unfortunatly this one is not very long at all. Sounds like it was abandoned. :(

This is an awesome oldskool 4ch mod and should be downloaded immediately :) Excellent progression, an eerie melody and generally very easy to put on repeat. The artist obviously knew how to use effects because this is what generates some of the most impressive riffs in this track. Again, the progression has so much variation :)

Hehe, if you ever want to demo to a newbie what tracking can do in 4 channels, and be recognisable to something they are used to hearing - this has to be one of them. An excellent remake of that really annoying song, in 90kb. If you don't like the original song then you won't like this. Odd, this plays a key lower than the original (enigma.mod), aparently this is an extended version for a remix which is why I guess the note has been dropped to mix in with another song, perhaps. It's an excellent song (the original). The extended parts added by the remixer are just about on par with the rest of the track (after 5:34). Brings a slighly new twist on the original theme.
