Overall Impression (7/10)

Chilllin' sums up this song quite well. I guess I would call this ambient electronic funk, but really it's just a very chill song. The main drums and bass stay the same for the entire song, but there are plenty of varied melodies being layered over top of them, all sounding very funky. Unfortunately some of these melodies sound fairly similar and are recycled a bit, and the drums and bass are never changed, which is good for the chill sound, but makes the whole song sound kind of the same.

Technique, Arrangement, Composition (8/10)

The most important effect being used is the set speed command, giving the song its funky sound. Tone effects are used liberally which helps mix up the melodies and counter-melodies, which are mostly done using volume commands. Most of the sections flow right into eachother because of the unchanging bassline but some good use of extra drums helps signal the transition. The samples being used for the melodies all sound different but their use in the song is very similar, making the different melodies sound similar.

Development (7/10)

Thanks to the speed changes all the melodies have a swing to them, and triplets are used in between longer notes for even more funk. There is one sequence that shows up throughout the song, and the rest of the melodies, even on different instruments seem to be based off this tune. Once its established, tone portamento and some volume controlled background material is used to change the prevaling melody. There are no particularly high or low notes used, but these could have broken up the similarity between sections. All this being said, all the melodies still sound interesting and are used against eachother quite well near the end.

Creativity (8/10)

The use of very synthetic instruments for funk makes this turn out to sound pretty cool, but the monotonous drums and bass could have been better. The melodies are layered on top of eachother after being played alone too which is pretty neat.

Enjoyment (7/10)

The similar melodies are there, but as a chill out tune if this came up in your playlist separated by other songs, you probably would notice that you hadn't heard a particular part before, which is good because it seems like you're listening to it for the first time again.
