Another's Perception ~ Of A Different World "In another world, technologically more advanced than Fergalt, a tall mountain stands. Another dark fog materialises, and as quickly as the first one claimed Fergalt, it covers the entire mountain. Inside the mountain, an entire civilisation of humanoids not unlike humans, standing taller than them by a few feet, calling themselves the Ascents, are startled by the sudden dark fog. The Ascents react by blowing up the top of the mountain with anti-matter, and evacuating the people living above. The mountain top has been sealed without dire consequences. There are air purifiers working hard to produce fresh air from the outside without any ill effects of toxins plaguing the air. People are safe inside, but what remains of the others out there? They contact their teams colonising the world outside. They receive nothing but a response of eerie silence. They try to use their all-seeing eyes, or in Fergalt, they would have called them security cameras. The fog obscures the view. This causes the Ascents to panic. The elders, in an attempt to prevent chaos, hold a meeting to discuss what to do. A lot of speculation arises, from hostile animal attacks, uncontrollable fires, and the end of the world, but, they decided to send a team of operatives equipped with supplies, comm gear, breathing gear and weapons to combat the fog. The Ascents in the mountain wish the team luck in finding out what happened outside. As the team ventures into the fog, they get lost. Communications fail, and the team slowly disappears one by one. Maya Ascent, the only one left, decides to escape the fog by activating her jetpack. She flies out of the fog and had a revelation. The sky's colour had changed from the typical lime green to dark orange. She was in a different world. A different kind. She was in another world. Hovering above her were shadows, moving randomly. Doppelgangers that resembled her teammates in shape, but crudely darkened with soulless eyes. They just stood there, convulsing. Maya shouted at the things, to scare them off. The response she got from the impostors were their bodies recoiling back, beforing lunging forward, arms outstretched at her. She armed herself, laser beam in hand, and shot at the air. And then, there was silence." Scale: C Minor Natural. Duration: 1 minute and 51 seconds. BPM: 140.018 according to VirtualDJ. This would be considered a Stage 1 track, now that I'm getting into huge territory for composing stage music. I still don't feel confident that this could work as a good song since the ending is a bit tad off. But if it works, it works. Unlike Mysterious Unknown, which I now see as a less accomplished song, I just went all out for the Touhou style instead of making a song based upon a passage written. I went for chords and piling instruments on the track, as well as doing some lazy percussion. That being the repeated four on the floor format for kicks and snares, and the hi-hats not being very different in variation. Hopefully that doesn't muck up the track! If you read the passage, much less read this longer passage, there's some story behind the music. "Another's Perception" refers to Maya. Unlike others who live in Fergalt, who would have a common perception of their world, being that of living and seeing the same world of monotony everyday, Maya sees the world in a different perception, as she's in a world she is not familiar with. This also is the reason why the subtext is called "Of A Different World". I have a fetish for the word "world" now because everyone comes from a different world in this game. I want to make a shooter game like Touhou. I have thought up of plots and narratives that will shape the world of others in my story, and breathe life into these characters. At the time of writing, I've not learnt enough for Game Maker, and am stuck with Clickteam Fusion 2.5. I will eventually learn programming, but for now, I just want to make some cool music. The aim here was to create something around 1 minute 30 seconds long for a character's thoughts to flow in when they come from another world, and getting out of the fog and wander around in a world different to what they were accustomed to. I think it works quite well, the mystery aspect done in Mysterious Unknown incoporated into this song worked well. My inspiration for this track comes from listening to Monster World IV, a Chinese song, and Touhou 1: Highly Responsive to Prayers, and Touhou 8: Imperishable Night. Yeah, somehow the better tracks I make come from listening to boring songs. Very surprising. Same with Mysterious Unknown. I used Timidity and Gravis Ultrasound patches, I amplified some of the percussion samples for that energy. That's it. Well, I'm done with Stage 1. Time for the Stage 1 boss music track I'll probably take a few weeks more to come up with. See ya. - Jason Ee, 13th February, 2020.
