artist Composed in July 1996.

The title made it pretty obvious that I was trying to make a song that focused on building suspense. So for that reason, I didn’t put in any kind of big hook - it’s basically a long intro. Well, not THAT long, like the other songs in the CPDP collection, it’s only around 90 seconds.

So, same deal as with its siblings: composed hastily, with little regard for quality, so I could get course credit. I don’t think the samples are really in tune with each other, particularly the lead and the bass. If I remaster this, I might have to change the pitch on something.

The lead is from a song called Jupiter, a well-known S3M by Trash. This was my first time using it, but not my last - I would soon put it to use again in Colony Rigel 3.

One subtle thing I noticed from this song that I didn’t realize - I slightly increase the tempo with each new pattern. So basically, every time I add an instrument, it gets slightly faster. It’s not much, but it’s a subtle indication that I was starting to come up with some coherent plans for how I would construct my songs.

Still not very good, though.

About CPDP: In the summer of 1996 I was in a computer programming / data processing class, and the teacher let me compose songs in Scream Tracker for class credit. I put together six hastily prepared songs:

CP/DP
Kryptonite Arsenal
Aquatic Jive
Oh! The Suspense!
The Unbrunchables
Willy Universe

They are all short, low-quality, and made quickly so I could get course credit. Look at CP/DP for more context about this series.

OH! The Suspense!
by Arcturus

It's killing me! In this
song, you're expecting
some power music like I
usually write. :) In
actuality, you get a
short and silent new-age
techno-ish tune that leaves
you feeling unsatisfied!

No powerful stuff like you
hear in Segue, Outcast ][
or CP/DP. Oh well. You
all deserve it, you've
been spoiled! :)
