Hey, this one kinda sounds relaxing. Its no wonder that it placed first in Barwars Compo #4. Great melodies and harmonies, you could listen to it again and again ;) Ok, nothing very special, but all in all it does sound professional. The Artist says that this was done in a hurry, so there are not that much special effects in this module. Nevertheless, still very good tune! Download is recommended NOW! :)

I do not know what the title of the tune has to do with a real Solar Wind, but the track is good nevertheless. Good melody and chord progression in this tune. But the tune is really a bit "boring" or "repititive". There are good variations in the background, but the melody is really the same again and again. There's only a piano, a string and some drum samples in here, nothing more. The quality of the samples are good. There are not many effects used in this track. A bit more effects on stereo/panorama and some special effects, and the track would have received a higher rating.

Exquisite offers nice melodies, solid drummings and a soothing background. Download now. Nice stereo effects. The samples are all in good quality. He used lotsa effects. Some 8bit some 16bit samples here.

Wow! A very good listen indeed. The melodies are great, and the module all-in-all sounds professional. So why didnt I give a full "excellent/professional" rating, you might wonder. Ok, here's my answer: The mod is a bit repititive, and it is a bit too commercial as well, although that doesnt hurt that much. The beginning and the ending are very smooth, and there's no sign of abrupt stop or sth. Very well done. Cool and clean samples used (16-bit depth). The drumming and the whole backing sound very professional. Good use of stereo/panorama effects and other little typical mod/xm special effects like volume gating effects etc. I recommend the download, do it NOW. :-) Have a nice day...

The piano in this good module features very nice and non-repititive melodies. The soothing strings have a calming sound to it. It really fits nice together. Concerning the Music Rating , its very well done. Minus point: No drummings. Only 2 instruments: Piano and Strings. Big plus point: filesize is only 32k (compressed.) Piano & Strings are in good quality. But there are very few stereo and other special fx in this tune. Listening to that mod after the 3rd time, it does get boring and samey. Try a download and decide for yourself.

Really good mythical, dark tune, like for an intro of a game like Syndicate or something. Good melodies, which you can sum under the shower in your bathroom :). But it is kinda repititive, its the same melody over and over again, ditto with the drummings and the background voices, strings and sequencers. If I didnt know it better, I would say its the same two or four patterns again and again. Sorry. Very good samplings, good beat and drum samples. Very good crash cymbal. All the samples are good for the style. It has a very rich sound to it. But like I said it before, its the same patterns over and over again. Good use of effects and stereo panorama, but thats not enough for a quick rating of 10 points. A little bit more variation, and I gave the song a higher rate. Please download it, and decide for yourself. :)

ModMaker gives us a well-done tune with "Season's Change". Featuring rich melodies and good ideas in the arrangement / composition, this track is really good. While listening to it again and again, I always had the thought that something was missing all the time, something that makes the song unique, adorable and great. But on the other hand, there are only few things to complain about, for example ModMaker could have done the track a little more creative. After some time, it kinda becomes a little bit "samey" in the arrangement. The piano that plays that rich melody has a nice quality, as well as the drums. The crash is a little bit too high pitched if you listen carefully. The lead sample, playing the melody, reminds me of some works done by Purple Motion and Skaven. Sweet panning/stereo and some other effects were included in this track. My final words: You won't regret the download - so do it! :)

I really do like this piece of music. It has been well tracked. The tracking skills of ModMaker are really good. The arrangement was mostly well done, but there is a passage in the song where the tempo of the track is changing surprisingly. From one moment to another, the song is just slower. Not so good. But on the other hand, "Beyond Reality" is an interesting composition. There is no real melody in the whole tune (perhaps the piano, which is IMHO more in the background). Minus point: The song has no ending, it ends abrupty. So you have to set your player to repeat/loop. All in all, I recommend the download. Most samples are in 16-bit resolution, and the quality is superb. ModMaker also used nice panning / stereo and other special effects. As I said in the "Music Rating Text" above, his tracking skills are more than just good. An enjoyable tune.

A pretty boring chill out tune with nearly no development. It sounds like the tempo of this tune was set too low. I think I would have given a higher rating than 5.0 if the tune was just a little bit faster. But on the other hand, its just a chill out tune. While listening to it, you get the opinion that all the patterns sound like one big pattern because of the lack of variation, alteration and melodical/harmonical development. The samples are very noisy 8-bit ones. The artist could have used more stereo fx in here. The samples sound kinda flat and have no depth in them. A disapointing tune in my opinion. The artist could have done so bloody more on this one.

The tune has a good rhythm and nice drum beat in the background, but the overall sound is not good. This track is full of beat box & other vocals, which IMHO were kinda overused. There is no melody in sight, and the arrangement hasn't any variations. Try a download, perhaps you will like the tune? Magnus composed this track in mono, meaning there are no stereo fx there. The sample quality is very good but weren't used efficiently enough. Some nice special effects like "Note retriggering+volume sliding" were used, but that does't make a brillant tune.

Here's a nice club track for all you disco fanatics. No melodies, no bass lines, but the drum section is quite attractive. The staccato chords which are coming up later on are pretty cool. Pump up the volume, and you have a neat club / trance track for you next party in the back yard or in the cellar :-) Only 3 effects used , but the track is stereophone. The samples are high quality ones, especially the drum samples. Worth a download.

This track was done by the well known artist "Acoustic Grand Piano"... err... ;) Strange nick name, wouldn't ya think? The piano (?) melody sounds quite creative and is full of variations, but it becomes very annoying thanks to the dump sample. The whole tune is out of rhythm. My little brother of age 5 could play the ... er.. piano better. There is only one single sample, which should sound like an acoustic grand piano but sounds like a piece of crap. No effects, no panning, no stereo fx. Don't bother downloading this.

Now, that's a nice listen after a day of hard work. This tune had some relaxing affections on me while listening for the very first time. "The Trip" has some nice sound fx at the beginning: Waves from the beach and some crows screeching. After that, a nice techno-like rhythm appears and then... this sweet piano melody, which makes me swing. The artist shows us that he is an experienced tracker who can handle complex chords and catchy melodies. A little minus on this one: The track could have been just a bit longer. Running for 3 or 4 minutes, I would have given this track a clear 9.0! Nice work , Peter! Come here, newcomers and young trackers, and learn from this artist! He integrated many effect commands in his track, making it sound quite professional. Big plus: the artist used more 16-bit samples that 8-bit ones. Good panning and stereo fx. Well done. I strongly recommend the download.

Anak shows us again how the C64 SID chip will sound in a xm. If Anak's tune was just a bit longer, I could give some better ratings, but the song runs 65 seconds. That's simply too short. It's a pity. Though, the melodies, drums and background voices of this song are pretty good. No stereo fx here, the song is in mono. The artist used a wide range of effect commands, for example the arpeggio command, making the track sound like a C64 tune. The glides and slides in the melody are well-done. Nevertheless, a pretty good download.

Anak created a nice tune here, comparable to the nostalgian tracks of the C64 / Amiga 500 cracker scene. The melody is quite good. The C64 drums are groovy, and these little bleeps'n'peeps in the background fit in perfectly. The arrangement itself has nice variations. A big deficit is, on the other hand, that the track is only 1 minute and 32 seconds long, and a little bit more creativity wouldn't have killed the song. The whole track is monaural, meaning there are no stereo fx in it. It sounds very dry and boring when you're listening to "Gangwar" too much. Anak has used some nice fx like Arpeggio, Vibrato and Note Retriggering (Good!). The slides and tone portamentos in the lead voice are superb, too. I would have given this song a higher rating, if Anak had used some stereo here. The samples are typical for the style and they come pretty close to SID quality (the c64 audio chip).

The title tells it all! But to be honest, this tune here sounds like a great cracker intro music on a c64 machine. All of you c64 fanatics will love this xm. But the teeth of time has nibbled on this tune. Good melodies, but a bit outdated. Big con: This tune is only 46 secs short. Some nice fx here, but thats simply not enough to be a good tune, and ANAK knows that. He/she writes in the title that he/she sucks. Elwood did it again. A nice dance track with lots of melodies, sequencers, background voices, and professional drums. Earcandy. Aside from all professionalism and outstanding tracking skills from Elwood, I cannot give this tune a perfect 10.0 rating. The ending is too abrupt and the melodies aren't as catchy as in his other tunes. All in all, it's still a very good tune. The samples aren't so good. Only 8-bit an kinda noisy at some parts, but they were cleverly used within the tune. There are many stereo and other fx to be found. I don't know the original from Prodigy, but I think the original is made better. TB only used lots and lots of drum- and guitar loops. There are hardly any own melodies. But the samples are used in a clever combination, thus the 7.0 quick rating. The whole track just sounds good! It' something different and unique and can be distinguished from other techno tracks of the scene. In this tune, many different styles are coming together, from dance to jungle, from rock to pop (so the Crossover classification). TB has used a wide range of different fx, including stereo panning, Sample Offset, Patternbreak and Note Delay. The samples are in medium quality, the worst of all are the vocal samples, which have been stolen from the Prodigy original, of course. However, you can't do something wrong if you try a download and have a listen to this. On the one hand, it's not the best track coming from the artist, TB, but on the other hand not the worst.

An action packed, fast pace GOA trance. This would be excellent in a club when played very loudly. You can dance to it very well. Running for 7'40 minutes, this tune has the right length. The arrangement is quite interesting and never boring (typically for the style!). You can find many melodies, and the drum part is also non-repetitive. Pay special attention to the part where the pan flute plays the melody. Reviewed in two words: Very good! Phew, a whole bunch of fx and stereo / panning was used. A wide range and variety of samples are here, all in good quality, although the vocals (from the artist himself I think) are kinda annoying, superfluous and useless. The distorted guitar riff is a good idea and gives the song a unique touch. Download, pump up the volume and dance!

TB did a quite nice job with this tune. It isn't anything outstanding or special, but it's nice to listen to it. After the first time, the track become sorta boring. There isn't much variation in the nasty acid line in the deep background of this song. The drums are o.k. The violin (?) sample has the part of the melody, which IMHO is non-repetitive, but on the other hand boring none the less. And yeah, the string sample has a wrong fine-tuning (argh, my ears ;) Good panning in the acid line, but the drums are monaural. The closed HH and the kick bass sample are in bad quality, the best sample is the violin string which has nice glides and portamentos. 6 different fx sections used (not much for a xm, which can handle 40+ different effect types.) All in all, still a good download.

A remarkably done chip tune. It's amazing what Distance from the well known demo group "Orange" did here. It's a very small Ambient S3M file (only 22k in size). The drums and "percussions" are relatively simple (naturally for a chip tune), but the melodies , countermelodies and background voices are full of alterations and variations. It' kinda relaxing while listening to it. It would really work as a tune for an orange demo (perhaps it was ripped from an orange demo??). A minus point: The tune is only 1 minute and 17 seconds "long"... it's too short to give a better / higher rating than 7.5 points overall. Sorry... Good panning and many fx here. Distance is really proficient as a tracker. Ok, the samples are lacking quality, complexity, 16-bit depth and length, but such is life in chip tune land. Distance tells us in the sample text that he had no inspiration during the tracking process of "tanks". I don't think so :). Download "Tanks" and have a listen.

I started to play this S3M and thought immediately (without knowing the name of the artist yet): "This must be PURPLE MOTION." I was right. High quality track, as usual from PM, But a bit outdated (hey, this module is kinda old, it's from 1992!!). Many innovative elements and melodies with a whole bunch of variations, alternations and changes can be found here. The lead voices have many slides and portamentos, which is typically for the tracking style of Purple Motion. Running for 5:21, this tune had got to be one of the best tracks back in 1992! Today already a classic! Download at once or you'll miss something... Turbulence is technically outstanding. Purple Motion knows how to make a very good track without using huge and big samples. Everything can be found: Portamentos, vibratos, Sample Offsets, Volume Slides and many other effects. But PM could have used more stereo effects IMHO. All together, it's still very good for an eight (!) channel and only 172K big module.

I have to say: Wow! This mod surely wins dozens of prizes for its nastyness! First, it starts with a poor piano chord sample which is often repeated, then a very loud crash cymbal follows which will blow your brain out of your head if you have pumped up the volume of your speakers too much (but why should you do that? This song is kinda annoying). Additionally, the drums in the background are very simple, too. My great-grandmother can track better. Oh, and by the way, did I already mention that this tune has an abrupt end? The samples are nasty. No effects at all. "So why is this song a XM file?" you will ask. Well, you're asking the wrong person, I don't know either. Nevertheless, a little bit of stereo / panning fx was used. If you want to use your ears in the future, don't download and listen to that.

This is a real summer hit suitable for your next holiday at the beach! Intelligence did a pretty good job; he created an impressive trance work with a melody you won't forget so fast. It could also be played in a club, because you can dance very well to it. The arrangement is very interesting and never boring. The gated string (with the 40/10/40/10 volume changes all the time) is kinda catchy! The ping-pong looped kick bass sample is a nice idea, too. Everytime the female voice somes in, you think that an angel from the heaven above sings down to you. Really enjoyable. The Modarchive needs more of these tracks. I'm more than sure you will love that tune :) Many stereo effects were used (big plus) which gives the song a bright stereo panorama. Technically, this trance was well done, although the samples are in 8-bit (only one sample in 16-bit quality). The remix has lots of additional melodies and background voices, which aren't featured in Robert Miles' version. Nothing is missing here, not a single variation or note from the original :). A complex arrangement and professional composition. After listening to it for the first time, you might consider to move this S3M into your c: favourites directory :). Download right now! You won't discover a single sample which doesn't fit into the song or which is in bad quality. Everything is at its place what you would expect from an excellent remix of the mighty "Children" trance. Lots of effects were used, but I miss stereo and panning effects. The rhythm was also well done as well as the pads. Not a brillant work here, but worth a download. Go on, and have a listen. The artist knows how to track. Many stereo effects (the gated sequencer in the background jumps from the left to the right speaker all the time, which gives the song a bright stereo feeling). The arrangement itself is simple, but not repetitive. There are many different samples, so it doesn't get boring. Big minus point: The ending is abrupt. "Trancy" has some outstandig samples with nice surround effects, especially in the background. Many stereo / panning in the samples. The song isn't catchy enough to be an excellent piece of music. The track starts with a tb303 loop which repeats all the time in the whole song and it quickly becomes very annoying. There isn't any variation in the arrangement, so you want to stop the tune before it comes to the (very sudden and surprising) end. Furthermore, there is no melody in sight. A very monotonous track. Forget about it. Except the jungle drumloops, the samples are quite poor and nasty. The stereo effects are at their place, but there aren't any other fx. If I had to review this piece of music with only one word, I'd say: "WOW!". This wonderful piece of art is indeed one of the very best S3M's I've ever heard. It's simply perfect from the first second til the end. The title fits in perfectly into the music. When listening to this module, you seem to drift away into another galaxy where all seems peacefully and full of harmony. After a long day of hard work, just turn on your computer and listen to that mod, you won't believe how your body and mind will relax... Don't listen to "Distance" using your old crap headphones, this is for high end amplifiers and expensive speakers. The Zapper writes here that he has done the perfect guitar loops himself. If this is the truth, he has done really excellent work. If you didn't knew that this is a S3M file, you would think that you have turned on your radio, listening to a number 1 chart hit...! The first time I heard "Distance", I wasn't able to move a single muscle; I was so in trance that I even forgot to breath. Then, after the third or fourth time, I turned off my player and only thought: "Wow...". The arrangement never repeats, isn't neither monotonous nor boring for one second and has lots and lots of variations in it. All samples are (naturally for a S3M-Module) in 8-bit, but you will be of the opinion that they were sampled in 16-bit quality. One of the best and outstanding samples is the fretless bass, playing a rich, well arranged bass line with a whole bunch of slides and pitches. Then, I have to mention the extraordinary string samples. The longer you listen to this fantastic track, the more you will love it. It is simply unbelievable that "Distance" only has 12 (twelve!) channels. It sounds like 32 or more channels are in use. The artist has used many effects in a very professional way. Another big pro is the intensive use of stereo / panning effects throughout the whole song. The ONLY negative thing about this tune is that it only runs for 3:22 mins. If it was longer, I would have to give a quick rating of eleven or more :). I don't know how the artist has been able to put so much perfection into a module which is only 393k big. 393 kilobytes! This track could also have been a MP3 file of three or four megabytes, I had believed it! If you miss to download this masterpiece, then nobody can help you anymore. Even if you aren't a fan of guitar and ballad songs, you simply HAVE to download it. THIS is the kind of module that should be uploaded to The Modarchive - technically stunning and musically outstanding. Trust me, have an earful and fly into another world full of wonderful dreams and imagination. You won't regret it...

"Take over the World" is a remix of the "Pinky and the Brain" title theme. In case you do not know what I am talking about, it's a cartoon series by Warner Bros. At the beginning you hear some good pizzicato riffs performing the main title theme. After that, a relative simple made techno tune starts. Suddenly at 1:20 mins, there is a strange tempo change, which nearly doubles the tempo of the song... it's very annoying. This song is nealy 3MB big, full of huge (good quality) voice samples of Brain and Pinky. At first, I thought that this is quite interesting and funny to listen to, but these samples are huge, loud and nasty at some parts. Some voice samples include orchestra music in the background which does definetly NOT fit into the song. Really annoying. It sounds like two songs are running at the same time! Not worth a download.

There are many T2 theme variations and remixes out there, and this version by Fernando Pereira certainly isn't the best one. I heard better ones. Don't get me wrong, this track sounds nice, but there isn't anything extraordinary to be found (except the high pitched staccato sequencer voice throughout the tune). The melody and the chords are pretty close to the orignal by Brad Fidley, but that does not justify a quickrating of 10. The samples (especially the sequencer voice mentioned in the music rating text) are of good quality and quite interesting. Many stereo and surround effects used. Fernando could have used some echo and hall on his track to get a better result.

DJ T-time did it again, a nice flowing trance piece running for 4:39 mins. A fast and furious techno trance with some influences of rave and acid. It sounds like a remix of Prodigy's "No good" track (some samples have been ripped from the song, for example the synth sound from the intro and outro). The song reaches its quality climax when the breaks are coming in (nice break beat drum loops which fit in perfectly). And now to some negative points: I really missed a melody while listening to this quite enjoyable and professional arranged song. Every second, I awaited some kind of lead voice with slides and pitches and vibratos and stuff, but there wasn't anything. Furthermore, the chords in the mainpart of the song repeat every two patterns, so there isn't a vast amount of variation. All in all, a really enjoyable tune; a good download here! The samples are all at 8-bit depth, but very clean and of high quality (except the poor kick). DJ T-time uses a lot of stereo / panning effects throughout the song (especially the percussion sounds are excellent). The tune only possesses 6 of 40 available effects, but they're used frequently. 20 channels are not the world. T-time could have tried to compose the song in full 32 chan mode. A deeper kick sample, more fx, 16-bit samples and 32 channels, and I would have given a 8.0!

This track is not suitable for suicidal endangered people. After listening to it for the first time, this tune leaves a sad flavour - at least I had the feeling. It could be used as a credits music for a tragical movie. I was sad, too - but because of the simple arrangement, the repetition of the music and because of the lack of innovation and imagination. "Tears on Earth" contains only 2 samples, a piano and a trumpet which are both in good quality. The whole track is in mono, no stereo / panning or any other effects in sight (hello - anybody there?). The track could have been done much more better. Sorry.

This tiny tune, composed by maktone / superstars, has a lot of melodies; many tone portas, slides and vibrato effects were used (well done!). The arpeggios and the drums remind me of some cracker intro tunes which are featured in many C64 and amiga games (ah, the old days...). The arrangment is good, although a bit repetative, but neither boring nor annoying. This track, running for 2:32 mins, could also have been a bit longer. Conclusion: I really enjoyed "Template of Death". We have a 23k and 4 channel chip tune here. Beat that! Many fx have been used (10 different fx). What to say about the samples? Okay, they're at 8-bit, they're short, but have been used in a way that you get the opinion that this track is bigger than 23 kilobytes. For its small size, the track was very well done.

My first impression: Cool. First reaction of me: A smile :-) DJ T-time made a really good techno trance with some influences of acid, dance, and IMHO spanish music! All samples used in this song are of good / very good quality, especially the female vocals of "La Primavera", the pizzicatos, the M1-Piano and the PercOrgan-Sample in the background. The title "Tribute to Rain" fits quite good to the mood of the song. No repetition in the arrangement and in the harmonic development of the track. All in all: well done. These were the pros...-> ->...and now to some cons (related to the tech rating only!). The artist didn't use many stereo (e.g. panning) fx. Only 6 effects were used (Fasttracker offers the variety of over 40 effects! Yeah, I've counted them ;. But the use of all 32 possible channels (in Ft2 that is) was a wise decision and did a good job in the overall impression of the track. Download the track now, and have an earful :-)

This song is made out of samples from the Disney movie Lionking. My first impression was that it sounds funny, but soon figured out that this track is quite repetative and boring. The samples from the movie are of bad quality, and the techno samples are very old ones. This track has two main parts; the first one is well arranged and the movie samples have been placed in a clever way, but in the second part these samples have been put together in a random order, so that you get the idea that Melodia didn't have any ideas to finish this song. Only three fx (Port Down, Set Volume, Pattern Break) were used in the whole song. All in all, the song was arranged in a simple way. After listening to it for the second time, you will probably delete it from your hd (if you ever want to download it). Not well worth a listen.
