Ok, so here we have a song that is, as the artist puts it, a "cover from some tune from some anime title". With that said, I don't really know where to give the most credit for the composition, 'some anime' composer or OGG (apparently the author of this module). But nevertheless this chippy song has a very energic start to it and it certainly manages to keep you interested for it's duration. And speaking of duration, the song lasts only for about a minute but has been looped well enough to even keep the listener repeating the tune a few times without noticing the looping. All in all, this is well worth a download especially for people looking for a nifty little chiptune. Daiji Da - I - Ji doesn't boast with originality or rise to epic measurements, but with it's energic melody and execution it manages to be on the better side of chiptunes. The composer seems to know his chiptune cliché, from heavy vibratos and portamentos to pressing the whole song into four channels, and has put his knowledge into execution extremely well. As seemingly overused and well-heard these effects and sounds are throughout module music, they fit the atmosphere and naturally the genre very well. What this song lacks in originality, it almost salvages with it's dedication to the genre.

It is really hard to classify this song clearly, but I decided to stick to ambient because of the atmospheric strings, even though the drums are quite rough sounding, even heavyish. And now as I mentioned the drums and the strings, I actually spoiled the song for you, because those are the only instruments it has. It manages to create some atmosphere, but even for the barely two minutes that this song lasts, it gets a bit dull. The song just would need more depth in it, more variation. As the song is quite old, the sample quality isn't obviously that spectacular, but definetly the biggest drawback with this song. It just hasn't got that much in it. Just drums and strings which are put into the song really monotonically. I'm sorry to say this, but this song falls from the overcrowded staircase of the average module files and drops into the place that has a sign in it, saying about 3.5.

Well, this song consists mostly of some low synth string samples played with the same note as a vocal sample with a woman saying something about blood on her hands. And this goes on and on and on. In the end, you experience quite a surprise. The song actually varies with the string played on a higher note and the vocal on a lower note! Well, to be honest, I wouldn't really recommend this one. I don't think it has anything interesting in musical value in it. Don't know much about the artistic value then... ;) The main parts in this song are the vocal samples which have somekind of a background fiddling in them, which reminds me a bit of some folk- songs. But in the song, they don't go in rythm, it's even hard to hear them behind the vocal and the string. Not much done by the artist here, mostly samples played one after another.

Well, Nighthawk doesn't let us down this time either. A whirlwind of beautiful synth and piano leads spiced with a firm beat and slight acids called "Trapped In A Bottle" brings you couple of minutes of pure positive energy. It has a tremendously good feel to it, and it varies well, maybe even too well, because there is no clear lead melody that would stuck in your head, nothing that hits you like a six-feet brick wall :) But anyways, especially if you like synth music in the best Purple Motion/Lizardking-style, look no further. Well, this song could be a swift tutorial on how to track leads for a song. They are made extremely detailed and arranged perfectly. The sort of "jamming" feel in them, especially in the piano line, gives the song a nice smoothness which can easily be forgotten when using the basic techno percussions. All in all, fantasticly tracked song.

Well, this song really has a feeling that fits to its name, with a swell guitar playing on the background and a happy synth playing the lead. The problem in this song however is that synth sample (0B). It's quality is quite weak, and it really stands out in a negative way in this song that otherwise would have potential to be a lot better listening experience. Also the synth seem to go at times offkey with the guitar. Otherwise than that, the song is tuned well, and shows that the author has good musical understanding. The song is tracked well, echoes and drum fills are remembered to give the tune some layers and some depth into it. If the synth would be better, and in key all the time, this song would have been at about 8 or so. It's not bad as it is now, it just falls into average songs because of some faults.

Spazz says that the song is composed for a game of his, and that shows in the fact that the song is only about a minute long. It is also quite simple, going on with the same c-c# idea and some high strings in it. Ofcourse you can easily imagine it on an action/thrilling part of a game. Especially the deep low-herz bass creates tension extremely well. But as a real song, this one doesn't really go to anything special. Well, no particular flaws in this one, but even though .MODs are limited to 8 channels, the author hasn't quite taken the full advantage of them. There could have been so much added into this theme yet still keeping the dark atmosphere in it.

A laid-back chip tune that presents some swinging leads and funky beats. The song has a nice, sort of a relaxed and loosened feel in it, which fits nicely to the chip genre. Though this is not among the best efforts in chip style songs, it goes above the average. As these old chip tunes tend to be, this one is tracked with special care to get everything needed to fit into 4 channels, which is really impressing. Especially the lead is impressing and very well made.

Here is something that I'm quite sure you haven't heard before. A really wicked sounding tune with lots of india influenced made with a sitar (or what you call it). Also the drumming, though it's simple fits well to the style. This is truly something different, and it gets more interesting on its way to end. The strings really lift up the tension. One negative thing to mention is that I didn't like the way the string sample 0B was played. The ending could be better too. The melodies are really cool, and it shows that hard work is done to get them and the chords too. Sample quality was very good. Good work by Qumran here, a must download for everyone already for it's uniqueness.

This song really has some spooky stuff going on it. The song itself on the melodies is repetitive, but it is left noticed because of the variation of the vocal effects. Sometimes the feel of this song is really haunted. And that feel is what makes this song worth a listen. The use of percussion is also nice, and all in all this is refreshing from all the dance stuff out there. This is different, and I can tell you, scary =) Samples were pretty average. The vocals were great and fitted the theme fantasticly. The samples were 8-bit but that way the file size is kept reasonable. One thing to say is that I don't like the way that sample 07 is played on pattern 0D (I mean when it goes like "haa-ha-ha-haa") That sounds clicking and not good at all. I hope you understand what I mean. But this tune really is worth a download.

This is a nice poppish tune that has a quite commercial sound to it. The guitars are great, some propably played by the author himself. The strings that add in after a while are brilliant, they sound a bit corny (excuse me for that) and commercial but still they are really catchy. Drumming is done with a big help from a loop, which isn't so good at patterns from 0B to 0D, where it gets a bit messy and offbeat. Also a weird break at the end of pattern 15, which doesn't fit this style and is done too roughly. Even though, this song is worth a download. Samples are quite good. The dividing of 8-bit and 16-bit samples is about 50%-50%. The size is quite big, but this song has its own touch. I don't know if the words in the sample text are meant to be lyrics, but lyrics would fit in this song very well. It's not bad without them, but they would improve this song a lot. The sampling of guitars shows that the author has musical skills, and sampling skills, because the guitar riff doesn't have scratches or clicks in it.

Well, here is one interesting style that I have never really listened so much. It starts with hihat and a scream that must be very familiar for everyone who listens to Dimmu Borgir or that kind of stuff. The guitar melodies are ok, they just seem to bit cross themselves at times, making the sound pretty unclear. Also the bass line really doesn't support the melodies at all, it goes out of tune. I don't know if this is the idea of the song, but it doesn't sound good to me atleast. There is also a weird guitar playing the same note all the time, and the song sounds even more a mess with it. The drumming is quite simple, some tom fills at points. Not much effects used, nor they would have been needed. Ofcourse maybe some vibratos for the guitar or some portamentos to the bass. The bass line should have been more complicated too. Also I missed a solo guitar, which would have improved the song a lot. Samples are quite good, it shows in size too. A lot of guitar samples, some could have been deleted because they are not in use to prevent the file size from going this large. And in the end, I have to say that I have heard some tracks by this composer, and I have to say that even though this song has its problems, the artist is improving.

I'm not much of an ambient fan, but this song really catches with its deep bass rythm and interesting string melodies. The smooth piano and flute only improve the feeling in the song. Also the drum beat is very good, though it could vary a bit more. The melodies itself vary well, and the song is interesting from the beginning to the end. One of the better ambient tunes out there. The floating speed is used well, especially the drum beat goes very nicely because of the floating speed, and thanks to the unusual solution of echoing the drumming, it sounds even more unique. Also effects are used well. The portamentos are great in the deep bass, as in the flute melody too. A fine job. Even the fading end fits into the style.

Though this is a old tune and it has quite crappy samples, they still manage to rock quite well. The melodies are just wild, and they show that the author really has skills. The sax(?) solo is just awesome, especially when the tune changes tempo it just gets crazy. All the background sounds, the drum beat, brasses and bass fit in marvelously This tune is really different, and worth a download. The techniques used in this mod are awesome. Just go to a tracking editor and see yourself how the sax melody is handled. Also the bass and the background brasses have been well arranged to the same channel, and they still sound very full and not cutting at all. Impressive work.

This is a great transcription from one of the coolest NES 8-bit tunes around there, Zelda's Intro. The size is pretty big for a chip, but the song sounds really gamey. This is a must download for anyone who considers to be a fan of game music. Effects are used well on the synths. The samples are rocking chippy. Only thing to note about is that the ending should have been looped better, because this song is so short that people propably play it looped (like in original NES) and it just jumps pretty unfittingly to the end.

The composer tells this style is hypnotrance, and I have to say I haven't heard anything like this before. There is a really good sample which has a bassdrum looping nicely (sample 09). It's just bad that it doesn't fit all the time into the other things that are happening in the song. Also the first lead is a bit off tune. The song gets a bit more interesting in the middle part, but the lead there is repeated way too much. At about 5 minutes there comes in a pretty good lead which again gets interest rising. After that the song actually is at its best moments. Overall the song is too long, and the beginning wouldn't be so necessary in the song at all. Well, this is atleast something different. Sample offset is used a lot to have the trancey effect. Also lots of other effects used quite well. There could be a bit more panning, though now it's ok. Samples are quite good, though some are very trancey sounding and might sound bit weird in someones ears.

Here we have a somekind of a dance remix of Swedish national anthem. Even from the beginning of the song this doesn't really impress. The beginning is a horrible hurdle of untuned piano melodies. After that a basic dance/techno beat comes in, with some faults. The clap would sound a lot better if it would be on the second and fourth hit of the bassdrum, not first and third. The cymbal is repeated way too much and it should be played on a higher note. I haven't heard the Swedish national anthem, but if it has this kind of melodies, I think I haven't missed anything. The piano melody goes a bit better than the synth melody. Also the bass synth follows too much the lead melody. It could be more open like following the lead from beginning of beats. This is a bit hard to explain here though. This is really not a good choice to download. Arrangement is quite ok, except for the lead. It sounds really messy, some effects could have been used there, or a better sample. The sample quality was pretty average. Some basic dance tracking techniques should be learned by the composer, which I already mentioned in the musical section.

This song has a nice atmosphere in it, with good strings and an airy flute, which is a bit too loud at points, especially in the end where the melody is very high pitched. The flute melody itself is built nicely with effects. The drum beat could have more to it, it doesn't sound anything special now, though the main base for this song is not the drums. This song varies nicely, and keeps itself quite interesting to listen to, though it loses a bit of its touch towards the ending. The whole pattern 0B, which is a transition from a part with solid tempo to a part with a floating tempo, doesn't really fit into the song. There are also some rough transitions which could have been improved with some fills or breaks in the melody or something like that. Some slight mistakes, but no tuning errors or anything. Give this song a shot.

This tune really reminds me of Vangelis. I don't know why, maybe it's the chord progressions or the synthey sounds on the background. Well, anyway, I liked this tune. It smoothly goes on forward with nice synth solos and the drumming goes with it solidly in it's lovely oldish sounding "snare is harder than the bass"-style =) Really an entertaining track. Only bad thing is that the ending is really weak. The explosion comes so suddenly that it really doesn't fit. With a small bother I think that this could have been fixed easily too. The use of sample offset in the lead is very nice sounding. Also the arrangement is nice looking with lots of air in the strings and good tom and snare fill transitions. And ofcourse there are some key changes. Great work!

The song starts with plain drumming that sounds really artificial, and soon there is added a cheesy melody with a cheesy sample. Then this is repeated a lot. The strings sound nice for a start, but go out of tune at points. Then a weird tempo change in the drumming for the end that really crowns the grade for this song. Maybe with more happening in this song, and it would be more listenable. Some out of tuning, and the samples are not really impressive. Also some work should be done in the drumming. The bass and the synth go fairly well, but they should have lot more variation, especially the synth melody.

Anyway, again a nice and classic NES song which is a must download for anyone who has played Megaman. One thing to complain about is that the samples 2 and 3 are too loud on the patterns 09-0C. This song playes looped quite well, and you can listen to it for many times in a row. Ofcourse the song is short, only about 40 seconds. A good selection of chippy samples. Here is an attempt to make a chip tune, but still this doesn't sound the same as your basic chip tune, so I didn't want to categorize this as a chip song. The song's quality level drops and rises quite suddenly. Sometimes the melodies are very nice, and sometimes they are just bleeping. The song is very long, so it get's a bit dull after a while. The idea is nice though and very interesting. The samples are crap, and that's the meaning of it. The techniques that are used building the melodies are great. A good job on the technical side, but I wasn't so satisfied with the musical side. There is also a bonus track called "Martyr Souls Invettiva" hidden into the tune. But I really like that acid line =) Arrangement is good in this tune, and so are the samples. Good work with not spoiling the tune with too many vocal samples, now they only spice this tune up. The song starts with a decent pad melody, but the sample that plays the lead melody is not so good, and so isn't the melody either. Also the part where the bass synth rises up doesn't fit in at all. Also the horn only sounds amusing within the other melodies. Sample selection wasn't so good, and I don't mean in quality. They just didn't really fit together. Also there were some bad transitions and some unfitting drum fills. Some more work with this one could save this.
