Title: Patrick Sachek - BelaTechn
Filename: pa3k-belatech.it

This tune is at times fairly hypnotic. the artist classifies it as "Belarusian techno", a genre which I've never heard of. Musically the track is nothing more than layers of repeating synth basslines which is typical of much techno, and helps to add to the hypnotic effect. Some of it sounds very good, but the spell is broken a number of times during the tune with the addition of some repetitive, synth stabs that are far too loud. The artist certainly has a grasp of this type of music, and knows how to weild a tracker decently. While the overall sound quality of this track is quite good it really is let down by a number of instances which repeat quite frequently throughout it's duration, cheif of these the problem with repetition in the major basslines, which are also a tad loud. If you like techno then this might be worth a look, it's not bad, but it's not at the top of it's range either.

This is a quirky little tune, it's about the size of a large chiptune but it's actually an instrumental piece with strings and piano. The music isn't spectacular, but overall it's put together quite well and the general chord progression and melody is decent. It's impressive that this kind of tune can be written with such a small filesize, but the catch is that the audio quality is very poor. The background strings at times sound like a hissing gurgle of noise, and the piano on some notes sounds detuned. Had the track been made with higher quality samples it would have the potential to be quite nice, but it really does suffer from the downsampling. Still, it could have been made for a demo/intro, so it has to be taken for what it is. Might be worth a look.

I'll admit, when I heard the start of this song I wasn't expecting much, but I was in for a very nice surprise indeed. This is a very relaxing, beautiful song - it is by no means pushing any boundaries as far as originality goes, but it makes up for that in atmosphere and spirit. Structurally it's excellent, except for the beginning and the end, these parts seem to suffer, but the meat of the song is very appealing. Musically the track is very sound, but technically it seems to fall through. While balance between the instruments is top notch for a mod there are some strange goings on with the piano. The piano seems to have a really strange delay on it, I got used to it after a while, but on the first listen I thought it sounded quite bad. Complaints aside, this guy seems to know what he's doing, and I recommend this song. It's a bit of a cliche sure, but it's better than a lot of the stuff you'll hear on the mod archive.

A remix of the end theme to Turrican 1 with a few other elements thrown in. This one is quite a treat, samples and instruments are basic but they are weilded with skill so the track doesn't suffer at all. There is plenty of variation (nice chord changes) and of course that great retro sound. A well made tune, everything flows smoothly and leaves nothing to be desired. Both musically and technically this piece is well done, it would benefit from better samples, but these ones have their own charms, giving it an almost blippy chiptune feel. Nice one, grab it if you like demo/game music.

This is one for all you headbangers out there, it's fast paced with distortion galore, a little too much distortion for my taste but I'm sure some people would be right into it. The track is fairly simple, but has a good flow to it and transitions between to contrasting elements of heavy frenzied guitar and slightly mellower parts are good. The ending is a bit weak and it has a weird looping problem, but that doesn't detract from the main song. This artist obviously knows a thing or two because it's a notch above many of the old metal mods you hear floating about. Everything is in tune, percussion is (on the whole) balanced nicely and it remains true to it's intended genre I believe. If you're looking for a strong melody and a nice clean sound stay well away from this, but if you're up for a bit of headbanging you might just want to give it a try.

**Ok, first off this song when originally reviewed by another reviewer was given the rating of 10/10. After listening to the piece this rating was clearly ludicrous, so I've taken the liberty of re-reviewing it. If anyone has any ethical problems with this they can contact me personally, my email is on the crew page.** Musically, "Telepope" is tedious and uninspiring. It's simple beat trudges along at a fairly slow pace, occasionally being interrupted by a poorly synched breakbeat. Melody is kept to a minimum, and there is no significant change in the song's quality or atmosphere from beginning to end. More variation is definately needed in the song, it's ultra-repetitive nature will not appeal to many. Technically the song needs a lot of work. There are slight synching and looping problems with the breakbeats, sample quality is abysmal and some of the instruments pan horribly. To improve this song the artist could have used cleaner samples, volume envelopes (it sounds like a MOD from the 1980's not an IT) and far more musical variation.

Stalker is a mixture of thick industrial beats and synth leads, it has a rather claustrophobic atmosphere fitting to the title of the track. I wouldn't call the music disturbing, or unsettling, but it does have a slightly sharp edge to it. there is not much melody, a rather quiet synth lead pokes its way through every now and again but it seems secondary to the beat and baseline, overall a more atmospheric than musical piece. This track is technically sound. There is nothing astounding either musically or technically here, but it holds together. Everything is in tune, but volume envelopes on instruments such as the background synthpads would have helped with the overall 'sound' of the track, when there isn't a lot going on the pad's abrupt cutting is quite noticeable.

Lemon Grass loses out for a number of reasons: firstly it's not very interesting. The bassline is extremely repetitive and gets almost unbeareable after a while. The beatwork is a little sloppy, and seems to rely on the background breakbeat to keep it all together (which doesn't really work). Halfway through the track a grating 303 line is brought in over the existing bassline, it sounds off key and turns the track from just boring, to bad. Musically it's all pretty simple, and even though some repetitive jungle tunes DO hold up, this one doesn't. Technically this tune isn't very good. The drum programming is inconsistant (snare drums placed in bad places)and the two basslines don't mix together well. By the end portion of the song it's just one big cacophony of grating synth lines and sloppy beats.

End Game starts off dark and brooding, the beginning actually sounds promising, but the illusion is shattered 25 seconds into the piece when the pads playing are abruptly cut. This then leads to a distorted guitar being brought in, and a steady snare beat with the occasional pad and synth sequence over the top. The music doesnt sound particularly bad, but there's no melody to speak of and it's quite monotonous. This song would have benifited greatly if the artist had used volume envelopes on the instruments (especially the pads), the sections of the song which just cut abruptly really spoil it. More variation in the beatwork would have been nice too, while I realise the single pounding of the snare drum might be faithful to the style, it really doesn't help enhance an already fairly bland track.

This is a nice, jaunty and generally well put together tune. The title is fitting, and the atmosphere is of exotic places and fun times, nice holiday music. Samples and instruments are fairly basic, their quality isn't exceptional, but they're certainly appropriately chosen, consisting of ladels, cowbells and the like. Nicely arranged, catchy little tune with a good swing to it. The artist certainly has a fair idea of what he's doing, and while the music isn't outstanding, it does its job well. I'd recommend listening to it in a patch of sunlight, with a splash of juice ;)

Pacemaker is a fairly mediocre mod, the beginning is extremely dull and clumsy but thankfully the tune gets a little better as it progresses. Sample choices are uninspiring and are of a poor quality, but that's to be expected as this is probably quite an old mod file. If you're looking for that feeling of nostalgia that only noisy old mods can offer you might get a bit of a hit, but there are certainly better songs out there. Technically the song is average, fairly standard stuff. It's a simple song, that sounds reasonably pleasant. At just under two minutes the song is at a decent length, it holds the attention well enough, but you wouldn't want to listen to it for more than two minutes as the formula would get tiring. Overall not a bad track, if you collect old mods then give it a shot, it has that retro-mod flavour to it, but it doesn't stand out.

This track is certainly a cut above the usual bombardment of dance tracks plaguing the tracked music world. The track starts off with some very pleasant (albeit very cliche) chords, that eventually progress to something a little more original. Musically it's not outstanding, it basically sticks to the norm, but thats fine in this genre. Most of the chord progressions are spot on, and give the track a powerful uplifting vibe. There's also a great piano melody, heaps of variation there. This track should keep any dance/dreamtrance fan very happy. Technically the song is very well put together. It's not boring for a second. The tracker shows a fair bit of skill, much higher than average. The mix is well balanced and everything flows very smoothly. There are a few lead melodies, some with synth, some with piano, so the track is very nicely varied, without losing its smooth flow. The snare-roll effect is also effectively used to build up tension, eventually releasing into more spectacular parts of the song. The track gets zero points for originality in my book, but since it's so pleasant to listen to, and so well executed it gets to retain its high mark.

This track starts off with some pretty boring, over-used chords that everyone will recognise from one place or another, so i figure I'm in for another mediocre listening session, but this track surprised me, its actually quite good. The track goes for 3:43 and throughout this time, uses three different leads, and a number of melody variations to keep things interesting. Overall, this works quite well. I don't particularly like the sax lead, it sounds really fake, but hey, this is a .MOD I'll have to forgive it. The other samples are quite good for .MOD standard, the piano perhaps a little abrupt, but still works well. For percussion, the track uses a simple drumloop, it fits well with the song, however is used in a very boring, uninspiring way (ie: just looped) I realise, as this is a four channel production that drum loops are very handy for adding depth when precious channels are needed for music, but I still think that the artist could have been more creative with it eg: looping and cutting it off at particular points etc. The melodies are pretty good in this track, there is only one part I don't like and that is with the sax lead (one note just sounds WAY off). Certainly a nice tune though. This track demonstrates a fair bit of skill. For a four track module, it certainly has a good feeling of depth, this is probably aided by the use of the breakbeat. The tune is well tracked, and apart from some minor areas, flows together quite smoothly. I found one note that sounded out of tune, whether it was the fault of the tracker or the sample itself, I don't know, but it was only a minor problem, as the rest of the track was of a quality standard. For lovers of Old Mods, I reccomend this, as its catchy, melodic, quite well tracked and although not outstanding, certainly keeps the listeners attention for its duration.

Two well known elements of chiptunes are: to be 1.Tiny in filesize, and 2.Very melodic. 'Remember' by Stalker/fyllecell303 certainly meets these criteria, delivering a very listenable chip track full of rolling arpeggios and enjoyable melodies. Under close examination, the track actually reveals to be fairly simple - its based around a four note bassline, and a fairly common one, however its power lies in its pace and melody variation. 'Remember' isn't all that different from other chiptunes as far as originality goes, but that isn't really a problem, as chip artists are trying to emulate the sounds of the old C64 sid chips and in succesfully doing so, have a successful chiptune. What stands this track out from other many other chips is that its very easy on the ears, everything flows smoothly, you could dance to it really. Percussion is minimal, it blends in with the bassline and melody, I like that. Overall, very well put together musically, albeit a tad simple, but nevertheless very enjoyable. Technically the track is also well put together, no faults on the tracking - everything is in order, everything is in tune, nothing out of sync. The track uses a few effects, nothing really flashy, but it doesn't really need to. Die-hard chip fans may argue that this track has more than four channels, 10 in fact. But I dont see this as a problem, as it lends a certain richness that isn't always achieved in chiptunes - perhaps oldskool people will argue that this detracts from its authenticity as a chiptune, but who cares? We want to listen to good music, you need no more incentive - enjoy the track.

This track starts off with a short gritty male vocal saying something that, to my ear isn't decipherable. Immediately after this your ears will be bombarded with a farly high-pitched acid melody and a monotonous bassline. So far, things aren't looking too good for this track, this is worsened when the acid melody is cut short unexpectedly. Musically the track is very simple, it contains very little melody/bassline variation, and seems to be beat-driven. The track contains a recognisable jungle breakbeat which on the whole isn't used creatively, just looped, or occasionally coupled with the typical 4/4 dance beat. This track certainly doesn't stand out musically in any way, it is repetitive, and doesn't try to be original. That said, it is all in tune, the beats are in sync, and it has variation to some degree, but certainly not enough to hold you riveted to your seat for its 2:23 duration. Technically this track is no masterpiece, but it doesn't really have any fatal flaws either. Since it appears to be a co-operative effort small conflicts in styles can be expected, but the track doesn't flow anywhere near smooth enough. The DnB break is panned annoyingly more to the left, which is rather noisy if you're listening in headphones, and while a little creativity is exercised with the breakbeat when it is chopped up, it is certainly not enough. For this track to be successful the artists would need to work on a decent melody, less repetition and a smoother flow. Also, trying for some originality would help. Overall, not a terrible track, but by no means a great one, the trackers show some level of skill in tracking at least, but as far as music goes, it needs work.

This track opens with one of the most boring, uninspiring and over-used basslines in modern music. I've heard it before, i didn't like it then, and I dont like it now. This track is full of musical cliches, the artists obviously hasn't tried for much originality here as most of the track is constructed from very simple, recognisable melodies and basslines. That said, the track does have a couple of high points, the melody at 1:04, and again at about 4:20 in particular is not bad, but is greatly let down by the rest of the track. Technically this piece isn't amazing, but most things seem to be in order. Most of the song is in tune (except for some of the bg string samples around the 3:40 mark which sounded a bit off). Perhaps the artist of this piece was trying to make some kind of compilation because this track changes theme a number of times, these changes however are far from smooth - leaving the listener dissatisfied. Fans of generic, mediocre dance music (and I know there are lots of you) may enjoy this piece.

This track is certainly intense, from the moment it starts your ears are bombarded with a loud distorted guitar which continues throughout the track. Its fast paced, and energetic, but dont expect to enjoy this track if your a fan of soft-melodic music. As far as metal mods go, this one is only mediocre. I've heard much worse, but I've heard much better also. Some parts of the track sound quite realistic, but other parts don't, I think more time should have been spent on getting the track to flow together more, and perhaps adding a slight reverb to the guitar samples so they sounded more realistic, instead of just cutting off. I also wasn't satisfied with the ending, too abrupt. I realise the artist probably did this on purpose, but imo it didn't really work.

From the first few seconds of this track you can tell it's gonna be good. It begins with a wonderful, fast-paced arpeggio that just rolls around your ears, followed closely by a bouncy bassline which immediately heightens your mood! When the typical chip lead instrument comes in, it brings with it a euphoric melody brimming with energy and variation. The lead almost sounds like a frantic electric guitar at points, I think it was probably written with an electric guitar in mind and it works superbly. The track goes for 1:58 and throughout this period manages to cram in alot of variety. The bassline remains pretty much the same throughout, occasionally going up half an octave or so to accomodate the changing melody. For a chiptune, the sound quality is very good - all instruments were well chosen and even better executed. There is of course a multitude of effects used throughout the track (common to many chiptunes), all were perfectly executed. The track would be great in an early 90's action platformer game, the song is easily loopable and certainly has that kind of feel to it. Overall a very well put together Four Channel Chippie, that should *not* be missed!

Structurally the track is pretty flawless, no melodic errors a very celtic feel despite the fact that it's a chiptune. Very well executed, and a pleasure to listen to. Ok, well at 16 minutes in lenght, you'd expect this track to be an epic of sorts. Sorry to dissappoint. There is a fair bit of variation, I'll give it that, the track uses about 10 different lead instruments throughout its course. Most of the basslines and melodies are very unoriginal. The percussion is very uninspired, as is the bassline. Its as if someone has just pasted together lots of different patterns, the song just jumps from melody to melody, lead to lead - but it isn't particularly interesting. The main problem with this piece is that its a tad boring. The artist has tried to keep it interesting, by use of variation - OVER variation I think - just as you start to enjoy a part of the song, it changes completely. On average it plays about four patterns, then completely changes. On the whole the leads are too loud. Theres nothing really technically wrong with this track, but its layout isnt that of a proper music piece. I notice that it is a "mix", and surely some people will enjoy it, but I like my music to have more substance.

Some nice work with the synth samples, great melodies at points, good bassline nice progression and track layout, however the ending, like many tracks isn't very good. The artist shows a decent grasp of both tracking and musical concepts, considering the limiting format he has done well. The track has some nice elements, a nice typical synth bassline and even some vocals! The track uses two lead instruments, and the first one sounds a little off key at times, a more prominant lead would have done this song good. The track is four channels of course, shows considerable tracking skill, fairly engaging and generally quite well put-together. The artist that wrote this piece has managed to create a fairly original, spasmodic and unsettling piece of music, it's obviously an experimental piece, as it doesn't follow any conventional genre elements. The track contains an unsettling synth-string sequence throughout, but at times everything will just stop for half a second before resuming. I realise that the artist has done this to remain true to a "panic disorder" to which the song was based on, but it is annoying for a listener, to have the track suddenly just stop. Apart from this gripe, the track is rather short, not too short really, but shorter than average - and the ending is dissatisfying. The artist shows good tracking skills, the song is admittedly a 'quick piece' tracked in a rush, but nonetheless an interesting one. The first half is darker than the second imo, which contradicts the artist's comments - but hey, thats my opinion, I think the second half was too light-hearted, too bouncy for such a dark sounding song, and it ends as if the piece is unfinished - is it?

Panic is a nifty little four-channel funk mod. By today's standards it looks dated of course, but to appreciate it, one must look past the low sample quality. Overall the music is nicely arranged - especially considering that there are only four channels to be used! The funky bassline is nicely varied and accompanied occasionally by some jazzy synth stabs, the drums are generally well programmed, however a little repeditive, and the snare isnt 'snarelike' enough for my taste. Any four channel MOD that is well done is impressive, it takes alot of skill to get a full-sounding song with only four channels, and Panic has succeeded here. Everything is well sequenced, in tune and flows together at a nice pace. As four channel mods go, this is a good one, but not a mindblowing one - I didn't like the percussion samples, or the ending very much (too abrupt) - but the bassline was spot on!

This piece would be great for an rpg game as it's a relaxing blend of dream piano, panflute and an assortment of other relaxing instruments. The tracker displays a good understanding of both music, and tracking. The song is a joy to listen to, but is far too short. A good techstep piece with a number of nifty filtered bits and an interesting bassline. The music is strange and raw, shifting from speedy beatwork to bizarre atmospherics. I think that the second half of this track is superior to the first, there is more variety and experimentation, that isnt to say that the first half is bad, it just gets a bit stale. The tracker shows off knowledge of some great effects in this track. the filtering is nicely done, and the synth-bassline while a bit overpowering after a while, is varied and well made. The track is a mixture of synth sounds, fx and a combination of a trance and DnB beats, not much in the way of melody, but it makes up for it in atmosphere. The tracker shows a high level of ability, the track is interesting throughout despite its minimalism, there are no flaws really, but its not the sort of track that knocks you out of your seat. Overall not a bad track, nice atmosphere is set at the start, with subtle little synth stabs filtering in and out. The track is devoid of a melody really, making it a tad boring, but the artist tries to make up for this by keeping the percussion interesting. The track goes from a trancy kind of vibe, to a two-step Drum n Bass beat, which actually works quite well. Also, littered around the piece are little vocal snippets to add to the atmosphere. Technically the piece is well set out, it flows quite well, is in tune, and in sync. The only problem I found with it was that at certain points the percussion became a little overwhelming. The atmosphere is suitably dreamlike at the beginning, and although repeditive, it is obvious that the artist is quite decent at wielding a tracker.

First of all, Pachelbel's Canon in D is my all-time favourite piece of music, so I was eager to download this MOD version of the superb tune. Its a fairly accurate rendition of this classic, only one or two parts were innacurate. My main gripe about it though, is that it was played too fast! It's immediately obvious that the track is playing at a faster tempo than Pachelbel intended! I dont know of the artist who remixed it meant for this or not, but it certainly got at me. Apart from being played too fast, its a good rendition, obviously lacking the aural appeal of an orchestral version, but certainly not bad for a chip! There are no major errors in the tracking, everything is in tune, a couple of tempo issues at parts, but nothing to worry about - this IS a remix after all. Fans of classical music rejoice! An interesting look at the Rave genre, this track wouldn't look out of place within a techno-vampire movie. The track has a rather "medievil" feel to it, with strings playing out a cliched sort of 'creepy' melody at the beginning and end of the track. The middle portion of the track consists of 170 bpm rave music, fairly standard stuff but well done nonetheless. Overall the track flows fairly smoothly, has no major errors and is able to keep interest. Some parts of the track sounded a little congested, and some a little off key, but I think this was due more to low sample quality than error on behalf of the composer. Overall an interesting track, not mindblowing, but certainly worth a listen for fans of rave music.

Although this music doesn't offer anything new and exciting to the Dance/Trance genres, I don't think it ever set out to do this. Instead the artist has focussed on emulating the generic. There is really nothing wrong with this, as it is generally a well executed piece of music. The bassline, is simple, yet effective - there is adequate melody to keep the listener interested for the duration of this five-minute song, and the beatwork, while standard, is well done. The main problem I found with this song's technique - was the sloppy transitions between moods. Sometimes they just seemed a little out of sync. Apart from this however, the artist appears to have a good grasp of the tracker, and is capable of producing some great-sounding music. Overall, an enjoyable piece, I recommend you download this if you like Trance/Dance music.

Wow this is a GREAT song!!! I've listened to it heaps of times!!! It is superbly crafted, and whether you're a fan of the movie "Event horizon" or not - if you like a hard and fast Psytrance track - with dark ambient undertones you will definately enjoy this!! The track is relevant to its topic, with manic synth melodies superbly crafted to give the listener a feeling of frantic unease (much like the movie!) Overall a great piece - turn it up loud - and try to save yourself....... Heaps of good effects - show that the artist definately knows what he's doing - the vast multitude of effects give the song its great atmosphere. Play it loud!
