An old part of the site, WaveWorld, was dismantled in 2003 and to keep the samples that were on it available, we put them up on our torrent tracker to assist in the bandwidth sharing (my main goal at the time was to reduce costs and focus on keeping the ultimately important part of The Mod Archive alive - the modules).
1.3GB of MP3 and WAV encoded files.
So, if you haven't grabbed it already, it's a fairly messy affair but you can sort out the samples yourself anyway:
WaveWorld Torrent (http://tracker.modarchive.org/torrents/TMA-waveworld.zip.torrent)
Now also available as a regular HTTP download! http://modarchive.org/forums/index.php?topic=3527.0

I thought it's worth mentioning that the MP3 samples are the same as the WAV samples, so if you want to go for ultimate quality, simply ignore the MP3 directory. :)
And apart from that, I really love the WaveWorld collection, it has many good samples which I used in many tunes. They're pretty raw, so there's a lot of possibilities to spice them up so they fit your own style or demands.

I just have to add that if you're a kind and considerate person, you'll do the ignoring by deleting the MP3 directory after downloading, not by excluding it in the beginning. That way you're seeding the whole torrent and benefiting people who want the mp3s.
-
well, i have an unzipped working copy with all wav files and the original MP3/WAV mix for seeding, that's even better for seeding :)
-
Sure, but not every downloader is a TMA fanatic like you. :)
-
Cool, thanks for the samples. I'll be sure to check them out.

hii i cant get access to the torrent file..it does not even download..

Hello iam new here. Somebody from the Milkytracker Community recommend me the TMA-Waveworld, because i have not enough experience to make own samples. I try the Torrent but there no seeds.
Seeder 0(10) and Peers 9(5) , so i have no download. Had somebody upload TMA-Waveworld on a Filehoster?

"Seeders 0(10)" means that there are 10 active seeders but you haven't connected to any of them. Actually we have very fast seeds, so there should be no problem unless your client is somehow misconfigured.

This torrent doesn't contain any illegal content, right? And what are licensing terms of the samples in the torrent.
-
Not everything that has "torrent" printed on it is illegal, and that is also true for our torrents. I personally can't tell you much about the licensing terms, but most samples should be public domain stuff, many of them have been sampled from common synths by (now) unknown people. If you make a module using WaveWorld samples, it would of course be very nice to mention TMA WaveWorld in the module comments.
-
Okay, I was just wondering. I know that not all torrents contain copyrighted stuff, but whenever someone mentions "torrent," you can't help but think they may be doing something slightly less than legal.
Thanks for the help though.

Thank you for all of these samples. This will help me greatly, as my job is I compose music for video games, and I don't like the samples I have right now.
I had this sample base before, but that was a different computer, and I had just signed up and was used to forums having quick reply boxes, and therefore didn't know how to post. I DID manage to post one thing, though, back then, but that's not the point, I have sidetracked. (I also haven't logged in since then)

Hi! Thank you for the share :)
-
Well, sorry for the noob question, but How must i use the wav files? i mean each folder have diferrents zips and each zip have a lot of wavs, Are all theses wavs differents "instruments"?. My english is not very good so srry ;D.
-
Every WAV file is one "instrument", yes. Sometimes they are also multi-sampled, i.e. several WAV files together define one instrument, but you do not have to adhere to that. You can use these WAV files in whatever way you like, you simply load them into the sample slots of your module and use them.
-
hi! are these samples royalty free?
-
If you need to be absolutely 100% sure that you are legally safe to use them - no. The samples have been contributed by various sources over 20 years ago, sampled from various instruments including analog and digital synthesizers. Sampling presets from commercial synthesizers is legal grey area but it's typically okay if you don't sample the entire present bank of such a synth. Nobody has ever been sued for using those samples as far as I'm aware, and there are much more blantant copyright violation (as far as I'm concerned) being sold as commercial sample packs that noone ever got sued over. So these samples are free to use and you are most likely not going to get into trouble for doing so, but this is not a promise/guarantee and certainly not legal advise.

hi im new here and i like to learn about modules and make my own. i saw this and downloaded it and it works great so far.but i was wondering if there have been any complaints about any viruses when downloading the torrent considering how old it is. i have personally encountered any viruses my yet but i still want to make sure.
-
It's pretty much impossible for an audio file to contain a virus. I'm not sure how the age is supposed to play into this either - if there was a virus in an archive this old, the chance that an antivirus program would detect it would be near 100% by now. So yes, WaveWorld WAV samples are safe to download and use.
