Title: RECORD funtion in Sample editor?
Post by: the-486-kid on October 17, 2007, 22:42:33

One of the greatest features of FTII, was it's ability to sample from the Line/Mic input of your PC.  You could hook up the turntable, or the synth, and record directly into memory, edit, and save the sounds as an XI.  Effectively making FTII a powerfull sampler, editor, sequencer.

I wonder why this very valuable feature has be left out in Milky Tracker?

I have cool edit, and a slew of other editors.. but it greatly decreases the flow when working on a PC or Laptop, switching back and fourth.

When working on a PPC, it is even more desirable to have Record ability in the sample editor,  can't think of how many times I was at the Vinyl shop, previewing nice cuts on some WAX, with my PPC in my sidepack, just wishing that I could plug in my handy 1/8" headphone jack spliiter, and run a line to my PPC to cut some samples into Milkytracker!

how cool would that be?!!

You can record with the headphone jack of your PocketPC? (line-in?)

My iPAQ has a button for recording. So, it's not like currently you couldn't sample on the P/PC at all.

Yep fair enough, but the primary reason trackers are so cool is the pure speed at which you can work. Having the song playing WHILE you record and edit new sounds is amazing and a huge creative buzz compared to massive sampler vsts in bogged down apps.
I love padding out sound ideas in seconds with my voice straight in the song too :D The moment I think about doing the same thing in big sequencer programs and sample editors I just feel dread and it sucks the motivation right out of me.

FT2 couldn't record while a song was playing. And I'm not sure if MilkyTracker will be able to do it.

It's a pity if it wouldn't. This was the biggest shortcoming of Ft2's sampler.

;D  Hacked my AXIM X5, removed the built in mic, and added a line input 3.5mm jack.

but for most, sampling via into milkytracker with the built in mic would be nice!

Sampling while the tracker is playing back is WAY beyond the scope of my request.  I just simply think that the ability to sample in our native program is a highly productive feature. Many wav editors are overly rich with features, using loads more CPU than Milky uses.. then in the world of pocket PC's  there simple are NOT sample editors.. so you have to work between a PC/Laptop and your Pocket Device... and that is lame.

No record/voice memo function in your device then?
