Title: Broken JAVA, Try MODPLUG embeddable
Post by: enc0nyx on May 09, 2015, 02:17:21
I have no way of testing it now, but I used to use MODPlug Player embeddable on an HTTP server, and it could read ZIP files.

http://www.modplug.com/

It says it is phased out, but last version is still able to download and use.

cheeers.

Err, no. Never. In short, all major browser vendors are currently phasing out their plugin support, meaning that the few browsers that actually support the native ModPlugin will lose this ability very soon. Second, it's not 1998 anymore, so people are generally aware these days that letting the browser install arbitrary software is no good idea anyway. Third, ModPlugin is outdated and thus buggy like hell. There are much more modern and better solutions available, like the emscripten version of libopenmpt (http://lib.openmpt.org/), which runs natively in any modern browser without requiring any plugins. However, I don't think anyone of us has currently the time to implement this for ModArchive, so if anyone wants to give it a go, please feel free to do so.

Java is not safe. So many people to avoid malware prefer uninstall it from OS.
While a plugin recommended by site is more acceptable.

Right, so you trust a random plugin from a random website more than Java? Luckily the browser vendors are smart enough to figure out that this is a bad idea and stop supporting plugins.
Again: if you actually want to help us, don't tell us which plugin (not) to use but rather write a simple player based on the emscripten version of libopenmpt.

The new player (http://modarchive.org/forums/index.php?topic=3722.0) is finally here.

By the way: That old modplug browser plugin probably has more exploitable security holes than Java.
