Title: Make it .tfi / .ins compatible
Post by: culture on April 12, 2013, 14:12:32
I think this would be a great feature to add to the software. I believe it could open it up so much more if milkytracker were able to read and play such instrument files as:
.tfi
.ins
.dmp
.y12

and many many more.

Anyone else behind this?
Milkytracker is such a flexible program, I think it would be great!
Saying that, I don't know much about coding. Would this even be possible?

You should probably provide some documentation on these formats before having any hopes on them being implemented. A quick google search for "tfi instruments" didn't show up a single relevant match.

These are the 3 trackers that currently use those file types.

http://www.delek.com.ar/ (http://www.delek.com.ar/)

TFM Music Maker --> http://woolyss.com/chipmusic-chiptrackers.php (http://woolyss.com/chipmusic-chiptrackers.php)

VGM Music Maker  [Discontinued]

While all 3 of these trackers are great.
VGM is discontinued and doesn't run on mac.
TFM also doesn't run on mac and has less features that VGM and DefleMask is great but the interface just doesn't beat milkytracker.

I think this would be a great addition to milkytracker for anyone who is interested in creating authentic sounding sega genesis music using the real instrument patches instead of .wav samples (which I currently doing along side deflemask)

You can pick up all the instruments from downloading any of these trackers and opening the instruments folder.

I know it's a long shot, but I have a feeling it would bring a whole new following to milkytracker.

So you basically want FM-synthesized patches in Milkytracker? Good luck with that, I doubt anyone is going to implement that in a purely sample-based tracker...

haha yeah. I figured it was a bit of a long shot, but I guess there's no harm in asking.
I've been considering trying to create a tracker myself that runs FM Synthesized patches etc that has a similar structure to Milkytracker, but I can't seem to find any tutorials on building music trackers. I know it will be a long road, but if I can't get what I want the only way is to work for it!
Any suggestions or links for tracker building OSX?
