NitroTracker Feature Requests / Re: Network ideas
« on: December 11, 2011, 14:27:31 »
Great idea! I'd love too have this in the tracker, but I'm afraid I don't have the time atm. This would require a fair bit of UI/networking work. However, NitroTracker is open source, so: Anyone up for implementing this?

NitroTracker Feature Requests / Re: pitch and speed
« on: April 09, 2010, 12:59:23 »
Well, pitch and tempo are naturally coupled in recorded audio. For changing one without changing the other, some algorithmic trickery is required. This isn't really in the scope of a tracker, but out of curiosity I'd like to look into these, algorithms and see what can be realized on the DS. So, I've added a low-priority issue to the issue tracker.

NitroTracker Feature Requests / Re: expanded ram enabled features
« on: April 09, 2010, 12:54:48 »
This is a VERY good idea. I've been toying with this idea for a while now and it would really make sense with the stylus. I'll probably have to experiment the some GUI prototypes for this, but this will definitely come! And no, there's no RAM expansion needed for such functionality :-)

I've added it to the issue tracker.

Thanks!

NitroTracker Feature Requests / Re: metronome?
« on: April 09, 2010, 12:48:57 »
I agree, a metronome can easily be "faked" using this trick. On the development side this would be kind of a hack. I'd actually have to do the same trick, just under the hood. It's cleaner if you do this explicitly, and probably a matter of 30 seconds or so. But thanks anyway!

I actually had this idea in mind too when I started working on NitroTracker. At the moment I'd like to focus on core tracker functionality though, and for something like a synth I would already have to break compatibility with XM.

Something in this direction will be sample generators that can generate basic waveforms. Together with hullcurves this will at least give you simple wavetable synthesis functionality. Also, and even more excitingly, there will be PSG support for the original Game Boy sound. For everything else, I'd suggest someone making a separate DS synth software.

NitroTracker Feature Requests / Re: what about fpmikmod4?
« on: April 09, 2010, 12:29:17 »
Hi! Thanks for the suggestion, but there's several reasons why I don't want to use another XM library: The ds has limited computational power, so all XM libs that render the auto on the CPU (like mikmod) are out of the question. Nitrotracker is also an editor, and most XM libraries are only made for playback. This would require numerous extensions to the library, so I might as well write my own one. Lastly, it's tremendous fun writing your own XM library! :-)

Thanks anyway!

I was playing guitar the other day, and noticing how easy it is to find the right notes for a song by sliding the finger on the fret until it sounds just right.

Maybe Nitrotracker could take advantage of this same effect, by emulating it on a touchscreen. Older PC trackers didn't have this same opportunity, since doing this with the mouse would feel unnatural. But with the touchscreen you can just slide directly with the pen.
Nice idea, but imo a little overkill for just finding a note. Sliding the pen on the keyboard was requested several times and will probably be a good feature. I'll add this as an option. Sorry to partially turn down the request, but I'd like to implement the more "fancy" features like the UI you suggested for a state where the basic tracker functionality is already there.

I added this to the issue tracker.

Thanks! Added to issue tracker.

- the pattern cloning function would clone current pattern to the next unused one (meaning the first one actualy unassigned to a position), as opposed to the next uninitialized one like it does currently.
But like that you could accidentally overwrite a pattern you still want to use. What would be the advantage of this?

- the "crtl-like" button (seems to be mapped to left shoulder button on my left-handed setup) with left/right (Y/A for left-handed) would jump to next/previous position in the tune. This would allow copy/paste between patterns without screen switching.
Added to issue tracker.

- the "sel" button on pattern screen would select/deselect track on which the cursor is positioned (dunno if your bloc system would allow this with "track gap" tho, if not maybe it could aggregate the selection on tracks between the first and last selected tracks without gap).
Added to issue tracker.
