True that. The more experience, the more tools in your box you have. Well said, Ceekayed. :)

(Eagle's mind: Going from MIDI to tracking? Feels like a downgrade, ah well.)

Hey, why's my secret thoughts being written in brackets above me?

*Cough!* In any case, you do seem to have tried quite a few things, but they all appeared to be advanced topics. Theme, mood, ambience and so on are what you get from using the basics, in other words: keys, chords, rhythm and dynamics.

Try out scales for example (full keys) and build your chords and melodies on them. If you have some experience, you will probably recognise them by ear. Also, try some rhythms that you like or think sounds cool and then make your melody around it, making sure you stay in key.

Basicly, practice a little of western musical theory. It helps when you are in a pinch and creativity is not enough. Of course, remember to never limit your creativity in the process. (You will just end up as me, otherwise...)

MilkyTracker Feature Requests / Re: Full MIDI I/O

Btw my Yamaha synth also supports XG of course.

Wow, Yamaha supports XG. I wonder why? No, can it be? They invented the XG extensions?! GS is invented by Roland, I'm not sure in what order though.

EDIT: Geez, Korg? I knew I was out and walking! Roland made GS. I stand smitten.

I totally agree that Full MIDI I/O support would be awesome with GM and everything. Of course, I wonder how it would work really, without making MilkyTracker more than just a modern FastTracker II clone. .XM extensions are out of the question, so a modified format would probably be neccesary, unless an adaption of .XM could work.

I ain't sure. I just know that MIDI and trackers are not the optimum combination, although it is a combination that well made fully works together. :)

I may have it. I'll search my collection for it. :)

Sampling / Re: Good sources for samples
« on: August 16, 2007, 10:47:51 »
I get my samples from Public Domain, Copyleft or Creative Commons licensed Sound Fonts, the good old ST-xx sample disks or, heck, I just blast away and make my own samples. :)

MilkyTracker Feature Requests / Re: Hi quality wav export?

I do think an optional custom sample rate would be cool as well. It would in particular be useful for the Amiga. :)

EDIT: I just realized the moment after I posted this that Amigas don't normally have support for WAV, although ProTracker can read it as raw sample data.

By the way, the name of this topic is kind of funny. Everytime I see it I think of replying something like "4½ inches".
