Demoparties, Events & Compos / The $35 2009 SoOn Compo
« on: September 25, 2009, 07:55:27 »
SoOn is sponsoring a competition in the spirit of the Scene compo tradition and to make it a bit more interesting we’ll buy you a beer (or two) if you end up in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place.

1st place prize is $20
2nd place prize is $10
3rd place prize is $5

Here are the rules:

1. You must use at least 10 seconds of one or more of the 10 samples provided. This sample must be identified (via text). But…. You can time shift, reverse, transpose – do anything you’d like in any software and throw it all together in any style with any additional sounds you desire. Do something glorious – make a mockery of the contest – it doesn’t matter – whatever is best wins!

There are samples at this profile

http://www.traxinspace.com/profile/2009sooncontest

Or at this URL

http://2009contest.soonlabel.com

2. Prize payment will be made via paypal – that is where I have the money for this event stored. If you can’t get a free account then I can’t help you.

3. A minimum of five (5) entries are needed to trigger payment of the prizes.

4. Entries are open until 23:59:59 October 31st 2009 GMT

5. Voting starts 00:00:00 November 1st 2009 GMT and ends November 7th 2009 GMT

6. Voting will be tallied by Tricky on TiS. Send him a TiS PM or submit your vote by emailing 2009vote at soonlabel.com which will be forwarded to him. His decision of the winners is final.

7. Entry URLs will be posted to this thread by the entrant or Tricky or myself. Email 2009vote at soonlabel.com with your URL if you do not have or want a TiS account.

8. SoOn members are eligible to compete – only I can’t since it’s my money and that would make little sense…. Wouldn’t it?

9. I’d like to thank all of the SoOn members who contributed samples for the contest

I think that covers it.

I use Sonar 7 Producer (soon to upgrading to 8.5 - gotta call them today) and OpenMPT.

I also have lots of hardware - 5 guitars including a Roland GR-20 guitar synth, a bass, A Korg MS 2000 synth, M-Audio 88-es controller, Casio electronic Sax, a mandolin (in need or repair) and some other odds and ins.

i have used mad-tracker but right now am unsure what a mod is?  I keep confusing it with moderator as compared to say FM or frequency modulation I do hope to do some modules of sound at some point but true I am un-sure of the xm extension ?  I can learn though right...  ;)

a good way to think about it is....

you have midi - like instructions that play samples stored in the file - the MODule file.

.XM is one type of many - .IT .MOD, etc.

Using modplugtracker is a lot like madtracker except less native effects.
