Alright, since you allow for anyting to be asked, let me ask a rather uncomfortable question to you.

When you decided to quit your online presence and consequentially quit being a TMA admin and all that, why didn't you inform anyone on the staff team? All you did was make a "Game Over" thread the day after you quit and left without any further notice or word. Why did you choose to keep the rest of the team in the dark about all this?

I apologize for not telling the rest of the staff team earlier. I just had lacked the mental energy to tell them. My mental health issues have gotten bad, I couldn't really bother to tell the rest. Although I did say in the TMA Discord server (main channel, IIRC) that I was no longer going to be active few days before I left. Either that, or because I forgot to do so, and I once again apologize. I guess that is all.

I don't understand what was this all "announcing" spiel for?

I want to say that the rant has been cancelled, since I lack motivation to write any sort of it. The truth is, I've actually been doing something way less ambitious in private since I left. I probably will not elaborate on that any further. And to answer Looper on that other thread, I meant not only quitting TMA (sort of back now, but I just won't do staff job anymore, and won't be much active here either), but art and music in general, along with mostly stepping back from social media (except for Bluesky, which I'm rather reluctant to link), mainly due to mental health reasons. I guess that's all I can say to Looper's question.

What I'm going to do instead is to let you guys ask me anything, about where I've been, etc. I also have a dental appointment scheduled in Monday (I'm very nervous about it), so I'll try to answer some of your questions until that point.

Glad to see a response as quick as you made it!

Looks like limitations exist on the implementation... :'(

I saw that sometimes either one of the two work - It is always good to try ^^

To briefly periphrase an explanation of Saga Musix: This is simply not possible to implement, because of the way TMA operates on the server machine.

Hi - Use goaway or Anubis
These scripts stop bots - I wish you luck

--- Details ---

This is the official message from this script

Quote
Why am I seeing this?
You are seeing this because the administrator of this website has set up Anubis to protect the server against the scourge of AI companies aggressively scraping websites. This can and does cause downtime for the websites, which makes their resources inaccessible for everyone.

Anubis is a compromise. Anubis uses a Proof-of-Work scheme in the vein of Hashcash, a proposed proof-of-work scheme for reducing email spam. The idea is that at individual scales the additional load is ignorable, but at mass scraper levels it adds up and makes scraping much more expensive.

Ultimately, this is a hack whose real purpose is to give a "good enough" placeholder solution so that more time can be spent on fingerprinting and identifying headless browsers (EG: via how they do font rendering) so that the challenge proof of work page doesn't need to be presented to users that are much more likely to be legitimate.

Please note that Anubis requires the use of modern JavaScript features that plugins like JShelter will disable. Please disable JShelter or other such plugins for this domain.

Proof-Of-Work

You can see, this script does as little effort to stop a whole flood of bots.
Here are several pages - under the following lines - that employ this script.
FFMPEG's ultra powerful multimedia utility that I personally use - I made my animated Avatar with this!
Another example, using an external YouTube video player - It uses goaway - Useful to save on bandwidth, but bots attacked it often too. Not anymore - It uses a variant that does not use modern JavaScript. Cool! This is the only variant I can run in Internet Explorer. Not that you should follow old browsers.

Recently, Modarchive has been experiencing major slowdowns. The frequency of this happening was not that big in the beginning, but now it reached to am almost daily thing now. At first we thought it was just a DDoS, but now it's apparent, that TMA is being targeted by AI scrapers.

So far, We've tried a number of solutions which proved to be ineffective. We're trying our best to fight this problem. I am very sorry for the inconvenience this brought over the past months.

Modarchive is constantly being targeted by AI scrapers, which slow down the site immensely. We've tried some solutions, but so far, It's not helping. We're trying to come up with a better odea to stop this

I experience outages when trying to reach the website since several days now.
The page does not load or only very slowly, and when it does occasionally, the "if this problem persists for more than 10 minutes, run around with your hair on fire" message appears.
Anyone else experiencing this? I am connecting from Germany btw.
I tried several different browsers and even computers.
