I did a quick search and found that someone on the almighty interwebs has been after the music before (German forum post (http://board.gulli.com/thread/1717952-wie-entpacke-ich-diese-datei/)). The music in the data file is practically a raw stream of 8-Bit, 22KHz mono audio, so at least the files in the game are not MODs - they are streamed music. The reason why it might sound like MOD music might be mostly because of the low fidelity of the audio  - 22KHz is not a whole lot. Apart from that, well, the music uses samples that were popular among both module artists and also people who were using traditional samplers. Of course there's the possibility that the music was still tracked (some pops and clicks here and there suggest that this might have been the case) - howerver, in that case, I still doubt that the music was leeched from the net and just been converted to WAV, though - this has been done before, but for commercial games this involves some risk.
Do you have any credits information for this game?
