Title: ALSA-based softsynths, or how to create synth samples without Jack?

Hi all, I'm using Milkytracker in Linux and I'd like to start making my own samples from synth riffs and chords and such...are there any tools that can be used for soft synthesis that use ALSA? My laptop sound card generates too many xruns to be used with Jack.
