Title: Tuning question
Post by: jerkemy on May 29, 2008, 05:43:33
so I've been using milkytracker for about a week and am getting the hang of it and almost done a couple songs, when today I tried playing some acoustic guitar over one of them. I thought "huh, my guitar must be way out of tune."

so to check, i compared an E from my electric keyboard to an E from MilkyTracker's keyboard and they're not remotely the same note. I hadn't noticed this before because MilkyTracker's notes are INTERNALLY consistent, but its keyboard seems not to be tuned to middle C.

Is there a quick fix for this I've overlooked?

oops, nevermind, figured out about 64 sample length.

another thing that should be front and center in a user guide!

actually, to make a sample tuned to the piano keys, you should use 32 samples.  I tested 64 with my guitar tuner, and it was an octave low.  also, i'm redoing all of my instruments to match this.

Edit:
This is a quote from Deltafire:
Quote
C-4 is in fact 261.63Hz.

8363Hz / 32 samples = 261.34375Hz

so, you could also adjust the buffer length to get to the right pitch.
