what i'm really looking for is those old game boy-esque drums and what not, if you have any suggestions or samples i can have please help!

there's a VSTi called "syntendo", you may want to have a look at it. i tried a quick search at google and it seems that the author's homepage is down... look for other places to get it yourself.
If you want to use samples, you need pulse waves, triangle waves and white noise.

If you prefer sampels, there is also a sample pack made from LSDJ made by a guy called Altemark, I'll find it with Google.

See on this link, you will find all VSTi plugins emulating soundchip. NES soundchip emulation is good if you search a Game Boy sound !

If you want to compose a specific Game Boy tune, use Boy Scout (free audi tracker with integrated soundchip emulation of Game Boy Advance).

Good luck !
