Title: Techniques of Chipping
Post by: frus on October 12, 2008, 18:37:39
Hi, I'm really into chiptunes and I'm quite new at it. Recently I've read this documentation which was really helpful:

http://www.milkytracker.net/docs/Vhiiula-TechniquesOfChipping.txt

But I don't really understand a certain part which was not properly explained. That part is the 'Envelope Technique' as the author describes it. So I understand that 8-bit sine/square/tri waves samples will constantly loop & sustain and enveloping it will make it sound more like an instrument (piano) which has attack & decay properties.

Now I'm using Milkytracker and creating a sample in 200(byte?) size and then generating the sine/sq/tri waves in periods of 5 (8-bit). What I don't understand is, at which part do I start drawing at the sine/sq/tri wave the enveloping thing?

Some assistance very much appreciated   :)

What the Vhiiula writes about doesn't concern editing the sample. The volume envelope is a separate thing located in the instrument editor, where you can also edit it.
