Title: Yet another action shooter..
Post by: matibee on October 22, 2008, 13:46:30
Hi all!

I'm looking for tracks for an arcade shooter.  The game will be shareware, but this is work for credit only (and full copies of the finished game for you and your friends of course!)

I'm not looking for exclusive rights or ownership or anything else underhand.  All I ask is that you are the original artist (no stolen samples etc) and that you have the right to grant me distribution rights as part of the game package.  All files are published as part of an encrypted archive so people will need to visit your site to find the actual files (the archive thingy isn't hacker proof [nothing is] but it locks your files away from 99% of prying eyes).

I've contacted people directly in the past, and I'm still doing so, but some files are quite old and you know it can be difficult to reach the artists.

If you need any other info or would like a beta copy of the game for inspiration (when it's ready) please post below.

Cheers
Matt

What formats are you looking for?

Is streaming music format also a possibility? (ogg/mp3).

Useful for know :)

Good point m0d :)

I'd prefer tracker files (.mod, .it, .sm, iirc) because of their file sizes but I am willing to work with .ogg too.  I use fmod sound library (www.fmod.org) which has great support for tracker formats.

No mp3's.  Last time I checked a seperate license was needed to distribute mp3's but that's easily gotten around by converting to ogg.

Cheers
Matt

uh sorry, but saying that FMOD has a "great support for tracker formats" is not quite right. FMOD is a bit limited in comparison to BASS (http://www.un4seen.com/), especially when it comes to accurarcy. BASS is better at both playing .xm and .it files - and it's much cheaper if you're going to go shareware. It's available for Mac and Win atm and soon for linux as well.
Sorry for advertising, but nothing can beat BASS! :D

Thanks Jojo.  I'll admit "great support" should have read "good enough support"  ;)

I own an fmod shareware license (single platform, multiple products) purchased quite a few years ago when BASS was still renowned for being (put politely  ;) ...) not as stable as fmod.  If I had to choose today I'm sure it'd be valid competition.

This game is built around alot of my old tech and it's staying that way (at least for now).  Future games will probably be based on a completely new choice of toolset & engines.  We'll see, there may not be any future games  ;D

Odd that no one offered anything yet.

Well, I have this song here if you want it for the game. It can be used in parts if you want it, or altered (faster or slower). An XM version is possible but it would take a day or so to downsample and convert it:

A beta would be nice, just to see what kind of sounds would suit the atmosphere of the game. Assuming, of course, no one else offers you anything better suited for your project.

Cheers,

Get in touch with me directly (PM) I have something I made for you, which might be what you are after. I decided not to post it here for sake of keeping it from spreading outside of the game too much :)

Cyguration; Nice track.  It'll be worth having in the collection when deciding on the final sound track.  Do you have it in a tracker format?  Thanks man - you get a free game if it's used or not :)

m0d - done, thnx :)

I'll have it in XM format within the next day or so...

Just in case you do use it, should it be set to loop?

Don't work on it for my sake..  I thought it started life in a tracker and rendered to ogg.  I'm not sure about the loop..  it's long enough so I'd say not.

Actually, it did start as a tracker and evolved into an MP3 and now it's going back to a tracker format. No worries, I was going to re-XM it anyway.  ;)

Here's the XM format. Let me know if you need anything else.
