Title: How can I put Mod music in CD to play at club?
Post by: risestorm on March 25, 2009, 08:14:24
Hello guys

I have a friend who owns a Trance Bar, and I would like to play some of the coolest Mod tunes there, but how can I change that format to playable format, like in CDs.  Is there anyway to convert Mod files to Wav files without loosing the quality, or is there something I don't know about these things.

Let me know guys, and thanks in advance.

Cheers!

Without going into the whole permission-to-use issue, most trackers have a WAV export function. But a simple way of doing things would be to open the files in XMPlay, making sure the MOD playback settings per module are at least in the same ballpark with the original trackers, selecting "WAV Writer - normalize" as your output Device and outputting at 44100kHz, stereo, 16-bit. Hit play and you should end up with CD-ready wave files.

... then dragging the modules into the player, they will render into wav files almost instantly at uber high-speed. Use a generic mp3 or ogg compression program (Google for one?) to convert to MP3.

For advanced users, you can download the "LAME" MP3 codec and set up XMPlay to use it so that it renders MP3 directly (and OggEnc for oggs, respectively).

There is easier way to do that.
It is called winamp, and wavoutput plugin.

Try different mod-in plugins for winamp, they are available mainly for winamp 2 series.
Anyway standard mod plugin in winamp should be more then enough for mods.

Winamp can be an easy quickfix, granted. But, consider that Winamp doesn't play modules properly unless they have the BASS.DLL replacement routine plugin. Which is why we'd advise against it. It'll play modules, don't get me wrong, but it won't give you the correct rendering as they were meant to be heard (in most cases).

Thanks for chipping in, though :D
