Not sure if this has been raised already, but it occurred to me that I would love to have a feature whereby you could lay your samples out across the keyboard, one sample to one key. This way you could quickly play in drum patterns in step-record mode without having to move over to the sample panel to select the different sounds. I know this would get me making some freaky business a lot quicker that is possible at the moment.

I think this would be classed under '.xi instrument' support. Some other people have been asking for this too, so I guess Tob might be on it, or planning it. Let's hope so :)

Ok - sounds good. What is an .xi instrument? Is it just a format for saving sample banks cos this happens in an .xm anyway doesn't it? Sorry, I don't know a lot about the ins and outs of tracking!

As far as I know. .xi's are Fast Tracker II instruments, which can contain multisamples (someone please correct if i'm wrong, I've never used Ft2, coming from a protracker background ;)).
Nitrotracker doesn't support these types of instruments yet, from what I have heard.
Heck i'm not even a DS homebrew user hehe but I thought I'd pop in with some info anyway.

Well, I've heard that he's making the next update open source (my sources are classified :P ;) ). So, people will be able to do what they want once that happens...
-
An .XI instrument can hold up to 16 samples, which you should be able to map to different keys in a tracker. Provided the functionality exists in it.
-
It doesn't support .xi yet, but it's possible to map multiple samples to an instrument. Check out that little "+" sign next to the "ren" button and you're on your way

Andars, that totally hadn't occurred to me - and I had no real use for multi-mapping samples before. This is fantastic!... Now if only I could turn off Chinatown Wars long enough to do some music...

Feature already exists, no need to add to the issue tracker
