Title: [Orchestral] Dauntless (MP3)
Post by: barryvan on August 26, 2009, 06:58:56
[Cross-posted from my wobsite & MPC]

As you might have noticed, if you listen to much of my orchestral music, I really like writing epic, syncopated scores with great big horn melodies (and little flute ones) that float above rapid, percussive strings and brass. Well, here's another example of that. Smile

This piece is a rondo in D minor. Let me know what you think!

I have heard many orchestral pieces and I must say this one is really different from what I've heard so far.

Not much to my taste anyway, but technically, it's really good, the percussions are really detailed.
Keep up the good work!  ;)

Nice work Barry

It's really hard to get 'digital library' orchestral sounds to sound 'right', especially in stereo field with dynamics for distance from ear and performance area acoustics. All add up to adding that important realism factor. I wish I had some of the sounds you have :) But I don't have a PC strong enough to cope with libraries of that magnitude ;(

And here's the cliché : keep up the good work, but always strive to make it better.

Wow, dat klinkt echt goed. Inderdaad leuke syncopatie erin. Hoe kom je aan je geluiden? Schrijf je muziek met Finale, of Sibelius of iets dergelijks en zitten daar van die fijne soundfonts bij?

Hm. I assumed, based on your name, that you are Dutch or Flemish. If you didn't understand what I wrote, just ask for a translation.

Hi Woolters,

I'm actually originally from South Africa, so I speak Afrikaans, which is quite closely related to Dutch -- in other words, I understood. :)

Thanks! I'm really glad that you enjoyed it. For my music, I actually use a tracker called OpenMPT (http://lpchip.com/modplug) in combination with Kontakt (http://www.native-instruments.com). In Kontakt, I use instruments taken from the Vienna Symphonic Library (http://vsl.co.at/), as well as various other instruments that I've found trawling the internet.

Thanks for the listen and the feedback!

I just drilled through the entire first season of the DVD for the TV show Pretender. In it, Jarod inserts imself brilliantly into some new profession.

This piece reminds me of the way he crafts a beautiful piece of revenge on some greedy bastard, while eating Pez candy.
