Title: .MOD File From emfintro.exe (The Electromotive Force)
Post by: swm3rd on November 18, 2009, 22:37:21
There's this song from the EMFINTRO.EXE graphics demo that I really like, but I don't know the name of the song. Some of the samples in it are similar to the ones used in Fracture In Space. I have a picture from the graphics demo. I don't know what program to use to rip the song. Let me know if anyone help. Thanks.

link to intro (http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=6171)
The music is by Purple Motion, but I couldn't find it after a quick search. Maybe you could ask at his forum (http://www.purplemotion.net/forum/).

Strange, I got this mod down as Double Trouble by Whalebone/EMF not Purple Motion.  Had a look through all my mods by PM and its not there, Double Trouble.mod is credited by Whalebone/EMF in the sample text.

Wooo...

Code: [Select]
*******************************************
     "Double Trouble" by Whalebone/EMF
Ripped out the Assembly'94 demo winner
                 "Verses"
           8channel Xm/Demostyle
*******************************************
   Ripped by Dipswitch with Rip-It(c)tRX

Same one?

The Intro clearly says Purple Motion (and so do other people), and "Fracture In Space" is also by Purple Motion. Maybe Whalebone is a pseudonym of PM? :)

The demo was released in October 1991. I downloaded "fst.double trouble" and it's not the song. Is there a program to rip the song? What program would I need?

Nope, the demo "Verses" is from 1994 (with the Purple Motion track?), the intro is from 1991 with the Whalebone track in it.

Seems different sites have different information. Pouet says the Intro tune is by Purple Motion, but another site (forgot the name) says Whalebone. Others says vice versa for the intro and the demo.

The linked intro contains the Whalebone mod Double Trouble.  The demo might contain When the Heaven Falls.s3m, not seen the demo so cant confirm.

The FST mod is an 8 channel protracker mod from the said intro.  AMP doesnt mention if PM was even in EMF.  I must also mention that I have a remix of the Double Trouble mod by Whalebone again, with speech samples at the beginning just like in the intro.

So I'm confused, cos m0d' post states the demo "Verses" 1994, but the linked intro on Pouet says it was released in Oct 1991.....

From Pouet about Verses:
"a worthy winner of the asm94 democompo, great effects (the julias and the cave rocked), and a wonderful soundtrack by whalebone."

Well, the demo at Pouet certainly doesn't contain "when the heavens fall".

I cant unpack the intro, none of the utils to decompress pklite exe's works on vista. :(

The mod attached is from the demo Verses...

Excuse me but what does Verses have to do with anything?

Its my mistake. Although I was searching for this intro, the site I visited to show it, streamed the Verses demo and not the intro like it said.

I haven't uploaded the song because it's close to 3mb. I have it on mp3. I might have to split it up in pieces and upload it one part at a time.

I've decided to split the song into 6 parts. Make sure to rename emf-intro.z01.zip to emf-intro.z01 to extract the song properly.

If anybody is still interested, I extracted the tracker module from the exe. (https://namoseley.wordpress.com/2017/03/22/extracting-music-from-emfintro/) It should turn up in the archive as 'emfintro' soon. The original is a ScreamTracker 2 module.  :P

Thanks for the late reply! :)
FYI, I only let the STM version in, not the S3M conversion - we generally prefer to have the original file, not conversions into other formats, even if they are "lossless". There are tons of applications that can play both STM and S3M modules (STM is not the only format "classic" Winamp mishandles completely, so it's no loss and  there are better module player plugins available for Winamp anyway).

Edit: Regarding your blog post, as far as I am aware ST2 is completely mono (no SBPro support), however various players and trackers including OpenMPT historically import STM modules with alternating left/right channel panning.
