Title: Pinball Fantasies Deluxe - Author of menu tunes
Post by: Saga Musix on December 16, 2011, 19:25:07
One note in advance: This is not about Pinball Fantasies. I know that Olof Gustafsson composed the music for that game.

Some of you might know Pinball Fantasies Deluxe, which is a pinball collection consisting of Pinball Mania and Pinball Fantasies, released on a CD and with CD audio music. This CD audio music is played on the pinball selection screen. However, I cannot find any information on the author of those four tunes on the CD, and MobyGames / MirSoft do not have any author information as well. Of course it's possible that those tunes are also by Olof Gustafsson, or maybe Anthony Putson (who also wrote MOD and CD music for similar pinball games) or maybe even someone completely else. Does someone here have more information about this?

I guess it's worth adding that in the meantime, I got in contact with Olof and he confirmed that these are his tunes - some of them were originally used for the Pinball Fantasies CD32 versions, and he was actually not aware that they got re-used for this release.

Good info, it's nice to have it but I hate hearing about the artist being left in the dark. Why does it have to happen so often?

By "left in the dark", do you mean that no credits were given? Well, to be fair, it was really just the two pinball games and a little menu in front of them, I bet the menu was done very quickly, so noone bothered to write up the credits for it. So I guess it may have been a bit like "we have these tracks here which we licensed a year ago, now go make a menu with some pretty graphics and all of that goes onto a CD"... probably not much more thought was put into it.

I meant Olof having no idea the tracks were used. Well, re-used.

Well, I guess if he give his rights to DICE, there's no obligation for them to tell him about every use case. IIRC he didn't even compose them for the CD32 versions specifically, they were his first step into the world of hardware sequencers.
