I've had this feeling that ProTracker seem to autotune samples but can't confirm it. My latest tune "Hormones" had 5 home-made samples by me (you know it. Editting and optimising someone else's ripped sample and then f***** up with Hackman Hex Editor) and they seemed to be completelly out of tune. Perhaps my theory on ProTracker auto-tuning samples is wrong?
Just want to get that straight. :)

If ProTracker auto-tuned them then shouldn't they end up to be all in tune to the same base frequency, thus all in tune? What I think happened is that when you edited your sample waveforms you messed up the tone ever so slightly, so that's why your samples don't sound in tune anymore. That's just my flat-out guess though.

Yeah, I guess. Though, I have experienced how what was out of tune samples suddenly got in tune when stored in a ProTracker module. Maybe that's because there were no transpose? One good example would be voices. I recorded a voice in F# and when played in ProTracker, the C-5 was equal to a C on my synth. If the sample wasn't tuned, it would play F# instead of C as it's base value.

I recently realised what was happening in ProTracker. ProTracker has a fixed sampling rate which makes samples of higher or lower sampling turn detuned. This may cause some samples to turn tuned while others may end up sounding awfully detuned.
Good to get that riddled out.

Yeah. All samples in Protracker are bumped down to 8363hz. You can either record your own stuff at 8363hz and play it at C-5 in the tracker, or record your samples at 16726hz and play the samples at C-6 for a little more clarity.

And please remember of the Nyquist theorem! a sound of sampling rate of 8000hz, play sound for a frequency up to 4000hz.

Protracker just hasn't got a C-6. Protracker just got 3 octaves, in FT2 they map from C-3 to B-5 afair.

There still is a fine tune value in PT, but it only ranges from -8 to 7 and the corresponding sample rates in hz are:
7895,7941,7985,8046,8107,8169,8232,8280, 8363,8413,8463,8529,8581,8651,8723,8757.

I think he was thinking of the way ModPlug Trackers maps the ProTracker octaves which is from C-4 to B-6. It does not really matter, really. It's the same thing, just different representations. On the original ProTracker, the same notes would be C-1 to B-3.

somebody knows Chiptracker (4mat tracker/Kristracker) ?? You can edit more octaves with this tracker, but it uses a custom format (MOD based) and synthsounds too.
