Title: TFMX Editor Help
Post by: eXOdus on March 28, 2014, 21:29:09
Hello guys,
Recently I've been experimenting a lot with music, trying to find my place, all that good stuff. I've been playing Turrican II a lot lately, and I loved the music. So my curiosity about TFMX spawned blah blah blah. I downloaded the official editor, but I have absolutely no clue how to use it. I tried opening one of the TFMX modules from Turrican II inside of it, and the result when attempting to play it was no sound. Can someone help me? I wanna start composing TFMX if I can, even though it's an obsolete format.
Thanks,
eXOdus

I suppose the game files might be in an "exported" format, which cannot be loaded into the tracker directly. Also, the TMFX replay  routines differ between the various incarnations of Turrican, so on top of that it's possible that you don't even have the correct version of TMFX for these files.

Can the last TFMX editor version play all the files? If so, what version would that be, and where can I get it from?

As far as I know TMFX was never made with backwards compatibility in mind, i.e. it was extended to accomodate for the new features required in a new game, but if that broke playback of some older game music, that wasn't important because that music had already been written.

Agghhh... ok
Well, say I want to remix a TFMX tune using original samples from the tune. How do I get the samples from them? And would I be able to upload this remix to TMA?

ModArchive does not support TFMX since there is no popular demand or software supporting it, you will have to build your remix in a different editor.
You can simply open the tfmx files as raw samples (8-bit signed PCM) in your favourite tracker and rip the samples out of them.
