Title: Searching modules by year
Post by: Bryd0 on April 17, 2016, 17:13:27
This is something I thought would be a good idea when anyone searches for modules, where they can be done by year, only when the author of the module itself has a date on it or even just its year in the instrument/comment text. However, that might be tricky for it to work as shorthand dates are sometimes used (like 24/1/16 instead of 24th January 2016, or in some other format) or when anyone just uses something like '93. Despite that, it would be good if it can be implemented because HVSC can let anyone search for modules by year but as you know, not all modules here have a known date of when the author made it. I know anyone can do that simply from the search box alone but I think this idea would be better, don't you think?

(I also suggest this because I've been searching for modules from 1987/88 recently, just out of curiosity but to no avail)

HVSC has richer metadata than we have (they actually have a year tag in files), so yes, it would be a lot more difficult with modules. Extracting dates from instrument texts is not 100% reliable. I'll see if I can do anything about it, but don't get your hopes too high.
