Is it possible to bulk download a bunch of modules from the database (specific genres in particular)? I'm terrified that this place might shut down and I'll lose my chance to find stuff.

Not sure about download by genre, but http://tracker.modarchive.org/

As Axxy pointed out, the torrent tracker is currently the only option for bulk downloads.
