Title: Oi, good to be back
Post by: MiG on December 20, 2018, 12:44:42
Hey Folks,

Discovered my old backup of tunes I wrote in the mid 90s. Fun to listen to them again!
Figured it'd be time to sing up here and add em to the public domain.

I'm MiG of BananaCrap Inc and Weird Magic, two Dutch demo groups that were active in the mid 90s.

Right off the bat one question: how do I add modules in the database that are mine to my account?

Cheers!
Michiel / MiG

Hello and welcome back!
When you are logged in, you can claim modules in the archive via this link: https://modarchive.org/artist.php?request=add_module_page

All songs I released officially are now in the archive, including the ones I wrote for the game 'Inner Worlds' (Exploring Time and Rainy Day).

The two I like most of my released songs are 'Desolation Road' and 'Does It Really Matter?'. Also, the coop with Mellow-D, 'Mama.' is one of my personal favourites.

... still contemplating what to do with the never-before released songs...

Happy holidays!

Add them to the Archive!

I seem to have everything on here, just one question...

Can you confirm that Chasing my Tail.mtm is one of yours? (not on MA)...

Might just do that  8)

I vaguely remember doing one or two songs in MTM format, but I can't find any in my archive. Can you send it / share a link or so? I'd need to refresh my memory.  :)

Good god man, -= completely =- forgot about that one!

This is indeed mine. Very crude, poorly looped pad sample and it sounds like a corruption threw in an extra over the top church bell. But yeah, that's mine. Haven't heard that one in over 20 years! :o thanks!

Where / how did you get this?

I'll upload it to MA tonight and add it to my profile. Thanks again for keeping this safe for me.  8)

Been a tracked music collector since my Amiga days and carried on collecting on PC as well, but obviously there isn't much released anymore, except here, scene party releases and a few other places...

I've collected, downloaded and ripped modules for well over 20 years.  :o

I contributed many modules to AMP and Modland in the past, and currently sitting at over 135,000+ modules (only tracker modules) and I should imagine I have a few modules not on those archives, but just too many to check nowadays...

That mtm is 24 years old (1994), no idea where I came across that, unless you up'd to the internet or it was in some demoscene production... lol

Wow, 135k huh? That's a LOT. Impressive - like a life's accomplishment. :)
Did you listen to them all (or at least peeked at em?).

Reading the comments in the instrument list of 'Chasing My Tail' I remember entering that composer's compo. Thrilled and full of expectations as I upped the file to some BBS - dunno where or when. Never heard from them again AFAIK.

It was my first attempt at composing a demo progression. Wow, the dreams we had.
We all (or at least I) wanted to be like Skaven and Purple Motion. Epic progressions with epic graphics and code. There was just no competing with the Finns. :D

I remember running into them at TP94 - my first party. I completely clammed up and giggled like a groupie. :o

Did various attempts at demo progressions later, none of which were very good. I'll upload some soon.

I've probably heard pretty much all of them at some point or other, wonder how many I've deleted over the years, bleeding ears syndrome.  :P

Back then, there were a few bbs' and a couple of sites that had .mtm on them, Altered Perception for example, might have been on the usenet newsgroups.  No idea if anyone has heard of that compo because I've never come across that compo before, and it's not mentioned on Demozoo or Kestra...  Don't suppose you remember any other entries?

No idea - as said, the compo didn't get any follow-up.

A lot of initiatives went that way. Even the music compos at parties were often a mess. Strickt entry rules that got applied arbitrarily - had a tune one time that was disqualified for some reason or another, yet they released it anyway so I couldn't compete with it in another compo if I'd wanted to. Also, lot of unfair advantages for already popular musicians. Was a fun time though - I really enjoyed being there.

Just uploaded 13 songs that were intended for a Weird Magic Music Disc or Disc Mag release that never happened. This is previously unreleased material. Enjoy (once they clear the upload screening) :)
