Title: Anywhere I can get the Yamaha DX7 factory default preset samples?
Post by: savage on June 19, 2019, 08:59:55
I'm looking to recreate the sound of classic synth tracks to emulate PC game music from the early 90s. The DX7 original factory presets are a lot of the sounds I'm looking for, but I can't seem to find a pack of just straight samples of those presets. Anyone know where I could find them?

Many of these sounds will sound different depending on how they are transposed or depending on their velocity, so it's not as simple as just recording a single note - and then of course different note lengths can also become an issue depending on how the release section of the note sounds. So an accurate representation just using pure samples would result in a huge package. I wouldn't be surprised if you can find a Kontakt library with DX7 presets though.

My recommendation would be to get a DX7 emulation like the free Dexed (https://asb2m10.github.io/dexed/) plugin, and render exactly instrument, note and velocity combinations that you want. The DX7 preset files are easy to obtain and can be directly loaded into Dexed.
