Apparently I created a main site account (username=syrinx) many years ago, using some mystery email address that's probably long since gone, because I'm unable to register a new account with that username. Is there any chance I can get that account restored so I can use it?

From what I can see this username is not taken, but another user has taken the same display name. As far as I can judge, that other account is actually a different person, but they haven't used the account since it was registered 9 years ago, so I took the liberty to add a special character to that display name, so you should be able to use it now.

I know of at least 2 Syrinx' - 1 from Usa the other from Hungary..

Still not working. When I follow the link in the account activation e-mail, I always get an error:
Woops!
Sorry, the confirmation link code you followed is either invalid, or the account has already been activated.

I don't see your account pending activation, so check if you can log in. Maybe you accidentally clicked the activation link twice and you only saw the result of the second click (already activated).

Already tried. I cannot log in.
I always get:
"Incorrect Password or Username used."

The account is activated and usable. Please try resetting the password.

When I click the link in the password reset email, it just takes me to an error page:
Woops!
Something went wrong, you will need to go back and request a new password again.

Okay, I finally got it working. The problem is that the account activation URLs e-mailed out by the site are badly mangled, with multiple layers of URL character encoding applied to it, and then I guess outlook.com wraps its own BS around that URL to try to hit their own servers first to see if the URL is "safe". The way those automated mails are formatted needs to be fixed somehow. Ideally the URLs would not be sent as actual links, but as plain text, which the user can copy/paste out of the email and into their browser to ensure nothing's messing with it.

We sent out plain-text mails. Hence they cannot contain "links", it's up to the mail client to interpret how to handle URL display. It's the first time I hear about them not working with Outlook but it also doesn't surprise me.
