Post by: olexander on October 20, 2022, 19:05:24
Hello! ;)
Can i ask?
1. How sort downloaded via torrent archives music by genre for sequence listening?
2. How listen music automatically sequence using online player, one by one, sorted by genre, like radio, without random pick?
Is it possible?

Kind regards Olexander :)

No, I'm afraid that's not possible. Once you downloaded the archive, it's pretty much up to you to organize it. The only player only can play random modules at the moment, but extending it with filters (to e.g. play all modules by a specific artist, on in a specific genre) could be an interesting future addition to the site.

Mine are just sorted by artist alphabetically in different folders. I have a list of everything in an Excel spreadsheet with some mod info though.

Metadata is hit and miss with a lot of modules
Credits is hit and miss with a lot of modules
Genre is practically none existent with most modules

There is no de-facto mod player unfortunately for mods, although XMPlay' playlist does have options to add info. Deliplayer had options to add details but not supported anymore after winxp I think.

I'd like something along the Winamp playlist thing. Only drawback, you can't add metadata if it doesn't exist. You'd have to enter data manually, not worth it for 10s or 100s thousands of mods.

I still use ModPlug Player a lot, even though it's not been updated in years. It still plays the vast majority of mods just fine. As my collection contains a lot of multi-channel mods, I think the playback is much better in MPP than the other players.

XMPlay is the mod player of choice for a lot of people, replay sound is good and the playlist options is great.

I still open mods in OpenMPT and Milkytracker to listen as well.

Playlist I'm not that bothered about anymore. With over 156,000 tunes in the playlist, Shuffle works surprisingly well! ;D

I also just use XMPlay. I don't organize my MOD music in any specific way, but I do use XMPlay's tagging system to add genres and other information sometimes.

Can You suggest me good tutorials for making track music using openmpt?

I cannot vouch for any specific tutorial. I haven't used any of them. There is a tutorial in OpenMPT's manual that shows you most of the basics. After that it's just practice, practice, practice. No tutorial will teach you how to write good music.

Ok, thank you! :)
OpenMPT is great tool, but why it only for Windows? What is alternative for OpenMPT on Linux?

but why it only for Windows?
Because the UI is implemented with MFC, which is not a cross-platform UI tookkit. There were practically no good cross-platform UI toolkits available in 1997 when MPT was first released. Recreating the entire UI with a different framework is a lot of work. Eventually it may be done to make OpenMPT cross-platform, but it will take a long while still.
OpenMPT runs nicely on Wine, so it can be used on Linux and macOS without much loss of comfort.
