Title: [closed] Downloads indication
Post by: woolters on November 25, 2007, 22:04:18
The site is fantastic as it is. It looks great and it's easy to browse through. But I got an idea:

There is a map on the site that indicates the location of the TMA visitors. I am very curious from what locations my tracks have been downloaded. Is it possible to have an optional feature (which can be called up if wanted) that shows download locations per song or artist? Or would this be too much to realise?

Cheers!

I've never used these location maps myself but I guess that you'd have to set up one for every file and you'd have to pay for every single map. Also, you'd have to log every single download which would bloat the database greatly.

Too much i'm afraid. Clustrmap is an externally hosted 3rd party image-load based tracker which I "rent" for just the entire site domain. To do it one's self, IP->geographic databases are so expensive, i mean, really. It's not something I can consider even if I wanted to. Sorry :)

Ok, I'm not very much into all the technical aspects of internet and building web sites(I'm happy it works :P), so I didn't know it was a payed service (I'm also just too lazy to look it up). I did figure it would be a bit too much for each individual track on the Archive, but I thought that it might be an optional feature on Artists' profiles. But it's too expensive so, I think this topic is fit for deletion. Sorry to bother you, 'twas worth a try.

Cheers!
