Title: Looking for Songs / Permissions
Post by: Aeon on November 30, 2007, 06:37:22
I'm working on programming a little game in the sci-fi 4X genre and I'd like to have some nice ambient background music to go with it (I have no budget and mp3s are too large anyway). I've found several songs that I'd like to use from ModArchive, but I couldn't find any way to get in contact with the authors to see if I can get their permission to use the songs. That's my dilemma anyway, and I hear its pretty common with this site, so I thought I'd take a different approach.

If no one can give me some pointers on how to get permissions to use the songs (or even if there's some reason why I don't need permission or its automatically granted), then I'd just like to ask if there are any artists who can recommend some ambient sci-fi themed background music that I could use for my game, and would give me their permission to use? I'd be more than happy to give you credit for them in the game.

Here's the list of what I've found that sounds like it would fit with my game:

"Line of Coherent Thought" by funkymuskrat
"Broken Dreams" by captain
"Eliptical" by Anarchy ?
"Morphium With 7th Dimension" by Trance Realm ?
"Esteem" by Mick Rippon
"Carrying to Hyper Power" by yello73
"Reflections" by Future Assassin / iCE ?
"Final Encounter" by Mystical
"Through the Light" by ArchAngel
"The Lost Planet" by Butch
"Obsolete 96" by dwayne wayne
"Falling From The Sky" by akuma pan
"Starshine" by Purple Motion

If the author name has a ? by it, then the site didn't say who the author was and I'm just trying to glean their name from the file info.

Mick Rippon frequents #renoise on irc.esper.net. You will catch him there.

MickRip was last seen quitting #renoise 1 day 14 hours 20 minutes ago (30.11. 07:06) after spending 9 hours 21 minutes there.

I'm thinking it might just be easier to program the game to run whatever music you provide it, and just link people to the songs if they wish to download them and use them in the game.

I prefer not to compose free tracks for anyone who I don´t know.
Once I composed a track for a shootem up game and never heard about the guy or the game. Can you make sure all artists music is credited and there´s a release date for the game?

My game isn't a particularly huge project, but hopefully it'll be done fairly soon. At the moment I have most of the major things done and I'm just knocking kinks out and improving the AI. If anyone actually wants to make some music for my game, then I can just post here again once there's a release-ready version that I can show.

That sounds good. Perhaps you´re interested in somekind of electronic space theme style of music?
Keep up the good work.
