updates:
-we now have a simple catalogue
-lots of small bugs fixed, including booklet and bbcode - now urls can be colored
-the amount of albums one can add went up to 7
-file size limit went up from 30 Mb to 50 Mb

Dear friends!

I am happy to inform you that my long-planned project is online as public beta: www.disc-shelf.com

A lot of time went into the development, and now it is there for everyone!

Disc Shelf is a service which allows musicians to upload their music and beautifully present it to their listeners in form of albums: singles, EPs, LPs, audio books, promo discs and WIPs (work in progress). Each album receives a unique URL for distribution.

The whole idea of the project is to allow you to link to your musical works and offer your listeners a wonderfully designed album without ratings, comments, some weird menus and without it looking like a web page. Instead, it looks more like a virtual compact disc.

So, to sum it all up.
Why use Disc Shelf? There are so many similar resources on the Internet...

However, Disc Shelf offers several unique features, such as:

* Disc Shelf offers a concept of a virtual compact disc, something which looks more like a record rather than a web page with a playlist
* the ability to highly customize the look and feel of your album
* cd booklet
* the service is very easy to use, it is not bloated with unnecessary features

I think the most common, most serious and most in-depth mistake is number one.

No matter how many modules I've listened to, no matter how many demoparty tracking compos I've seen, in 99% the problem is with composition. The musician writes a good part and then just loops it. He can change the number of instruments, he can pitch the whole tune up half a tone or a tone, but in reality all there is is just one small part. You start the tune, listen it's first 20 seconds and you know that this is what the tune will be about and nothing will change.

The fact that most mod authors fail to write out a good theme development makes thousands of mods sound like sketches or unfinished raw material.

In fact, when I have started a melody compo, which was called One Voice Compo, I saw that most people failed to write a melody. They were used to wrapping their tunes into arrangements, sounds and rhythm, but they were not writing too much musical ideas.

So, I think this is the most important thing to watch out for. Make your tunes develop. Bring surprises. Let your listener get something he does not expect.

I wonder if anyone in the world still writes s3m music with Scream Tracker 3.

If you had a special device which would show the amount of ppl using this or that software, would Scream Tracker 3 user number be zero?

I am sure FT2 is still used, at least for demo making and games. But I like Scream Tracker 3 better, though I've never done a good tune with it.

Looked at it.
I had no problem understanding what's where and how to load stuff, but I think that the story of Nitro Tracker is only beginning. So far it does not support any effects, so I am not sure you can even write chip music with it.
I do wish for the author to continue his work.

I've written a new entry, this time about tuning samples. People who have trouble tuning those beeps and blips may rejoice, as tuning turned out to be very simple, even pleasant, as it's so cool to hear those awful sines actually going in unison =) All that with just a couple of clicks!
