While jngbngr is right, you can also use the key-off "note" to logically stop notes. Search for that in the manual.

Shift-left/right. Implementing IT shortcuts makes little sense since the user base is mainly newbies and people from the other camp.

Yes, that's exactly what you've done and may I say it's not bad at all a firstie. :) The only thing I don't really like is the arpeggio line on channel 7. While it kinda fits into the song, as I understand an uneasy feeling was what you were going for, I guess I've just heard too many clashing arpeggios not to be bugged.
