MilkyTracker Tracks & Songs / First attempts, Questions
« on: November 06, 2010, 21:32:00 »
Hey guys.

So I was experimenting a bit with MilkyTracker and this little loop is what I've ended up with. Now I have a few questions:

My samples are self-drawn and they pretty much suck (especially the "drums"). How can I add some high frequencies to my samples? (The whole .xm sounds pretty muffled and deepish is what I'm getting at)

Where can I find a tutorial on how to draw neat drum samples? I know I can get a basic kick drum by creating a sine and then making it drop in volume and pitch. How do I do that in MilkyTracker's sample editor? I don't want to abuse effect codes for it.

How do I draw a basic snare sample? I instinctively tried using white noise and dropping the volume, but it didn't sound anything like a snare.

Also, I have a question about the bass. I know the bass line is as basic as it can get as it is. But the problem I was having is if I use deeper notes, it makes the bass sound less loud and have more attack. How do I prevent this from happening? Is it because I drew a bad sample?

Should I just try to create my samples with other programs?
Which ones should I try?

Thanks. ^^

The Lobby / Very tiny portable mod player?
« on: November 07, 2009, 00:39:54 »
Is there one? So tiny that it fits into a toy space gun and I could power it by an ordinary coin cell battery maybe? (if that's not enough power I can find a gun that uses different batteries)
Because that's what I'm looking for. Then I only need to find a way to replace the gun's sound module thing with it.
I need next to no memory, I don't want to store entire songs, just a few seconds of sound.
But I want the tunes to be interchangeable. (needs some sort of interface to PC)
A big plus would be if I could store like 10 samples and it'd play sample 1 if I pulled the trigger once, sample 2 if I pulled it the second time etc.
I'd pay if somebody constructed something like that for me and if I liked the finished thing. But I suspect that probably nobody who doesn't know me personally would try it. So at least I want to find out which parts I'll need and then gather them. So could any of you suggest/tell me?
Then I'd just have to find somebody who puts them into one of my toy guns. I really have no clue about electronics myself and don't plan to learn how to do it either.

I don't really care if it plays mods or mods converted to wavs. I just thought the first option might be easier to get to work. And cooler, lol.

Thanks for any help!

Hm, yes, I know about circuit bending, but that's not what I'm looking for. I want to be able to pull the trigger of the space gun so it starts playing a desired (short) chiptune.

I figured I would probably have to add another chip (would an Atari sound chip work theoretically?) to the gun's interiors and maybe an additional power source.. And for reading the files, I don't really have a clue. Either I'd have to get it to read .xm/mod files from some storage medium somehow or I'd have to convert it to wav-files or something first.. The first option would be more desireable, but I'm really fine with everything as long as it works.

Sorry, I'm not all that experienced with that kind of stuff.. But I really want to get it to work somehow! :/

Those toy laser guns / space guns that make weird noises if you pull the trigger. Basically I'm looking for a way to modify the sound they make and it would be neat to make them play some standard chiptune files.

I'm very interested in getting toy guns to play the chip tunes I want them to. Is there an efficient way? What do I need to do?
Thanks in advance!
