I'm also willing to sponsor the development if required.

Heh, well, in the words of Syphus; "It's ESSENTIAL to support the Amiga", and being a new-school tracker, the features I've suggested would /really/ help.

Fair play to the learning curve though, but personally, I'd rather get on with writing music than having to spend ages munging samples to work well - I suppose that's my choice for writing for Paula / Protracker, but any software based help would be greatly appreciated.

Come to think of it, MilkyTracker already has some excellent assistance with .mod support, it's just a case of going a little bit further.

Oh, a lock effects and available notes feature would be good, and maybe a feature to prompt to resample for notes out of range perhaps?

It's quite a learning curve going from renoise > milkytracker > protracker for those used to luxury features...!

Hi,

I have been asked to write a .mod for an Amiga demo which needs to be in the Protracker format (4 channels, no samples more than 128kb, 8-bit samples, samples only, no linear frequency table) - and I think a Protracker assist mode would be really useful, where the following things would happen:

- It would lock you into 4 channels
- It would force the Paula panning
- It would have an intelligent sample importer that either cropped or resampled to Protracker compliance, and counter the lack of a linear frequency table
- It would disable sample looping and features not relevant to .MOD specification
- Basically a feature clamp to ensure the MOD is fine for Protracker
- Also a feature to "render to target" so a final file size could be specified and instruments would be resampled to fit

I do appreciate how MT handles things as it is, there are a lot of really handy features, but there's still a scope for improvement, and it would really make writing high quality Paula / Protracker mods easier.

Do excuse me if I'm treading on toes here! I appreciate if people feel I am using a tool out of context.

Ruairi
