Tracking / Trackers for Android
« on: November 18, 2017, 22:13:11 »
Hey everyone.

Just wanted to talk about Solutions for tracking under Android.

I tried the MilkyTracker port, but it's not very controllable with the touchscreen. I suppose if you have a keyboard and mouse, it would be easier, but it sort of defeats the purpose.

I recently paid for a full copy of PixiTracker. While not a full blown tracker, it's easy to use, and can export to XM format, so it's pretty easy to create "sketches" on the go and then finish up work on a PC using a proper tracker. You can load your own samples, but features like effects, looping samples and proper table-based editing is absent. Still very useful though!
The same person who created SunVOX made PixiTracker. I've considered actually using SunVox as well, since it's also available for android. Anyone know how useable it is in android? It looks pretty good feature-wise. Feedback on this would be appreciated.

Lastly, NanoLoop is available too; I have had a little experience with it from years ago when I worked with it in the Gameboy scene. Not my cup of tea, but still putting it out there.

At one time 8Tones was an option, it's no longer on the Play store, and I don't have a source to safely get a copy to sideload.

If anybody knows of any other trackers for android, feel free to chime in.
Aside from that, any input on the subject would be appreciated. Android seems to be a platform that doesn't get a lot of love, but it's useful when out and about; I can't always bring my Notebook PC along, but I always have my smartphone.

Help Support Topics Archive / I need a song removed
« on: November 11, 2017, 04:36:29 »
I apologize in advance.

I accidentally uploaded the wrong version of a module after which I uploaded the correct version. They were both the same filename (rave669-SpiderFunk.mptm). I guess I was hoping the later file would overwrite the incorrect file, but it seems to have appended Rave669_ to the beginning.

If you could just delete the earlier upload, and keep/review the 2nd one I'd appreciate it. If for whatever that can't happen, just delete them both and I'll re-upload the file.

The first file wasn't the final version of the song, and has some minor differences. I grabbed it from my working directory rather than my upload directory. My bad.

Thanks.

Project / Coder's Corner / Any good Unity asset for playing Modules?
« on: February 16, 2017, 21:18:34 »
Hi all,

I'm working on a google VR/cardboard project in unity. For the time being, I have been exporting my tracks to MP3 format for use in the project, which works.

But I was curious if there are any decent Unity assets for module playback. I can convert to several formats obviously, but .IT support would probably work best, or .MPTM.

Also, would I be best off using an MP3 for music? How big of a resource hit would I take by playing modules directly? bear in mind, it's a VR game for android, so resources are scarce to begin with.

Anyone with experience in this matter chiming in would be appreciated.
TIA.

EDIT: I just read another post by the Unity Devs on here that mentioned native module support; I looked into it and I did find out that, yes, it supports ImpulseTracker modules natively. my bad.

Still, if anyone knows of an asset for Unity that supports OpenMPT modules, that's be great. and my other question regarding resources is still valid. Gotta keep that framerate high!.

Help me find that... / Looking for ANY of my old tracks...
« on: February 16, 2017, 20:48:13 »
Hi Everybody, Rave669 here.

Most of you likely don't know me, but I've been tracking for a long time, since about 1990 or so. I just joined ModArchive and have begun to submit some songs.

Anyways, I was wondering if anybody here might help. Here's a little background on myself.

around 1989, myself and a (dearly departed) friend of mine, Jon (aka MadMage) started coding demos under the banner of RYLO software; a lot of which were distributed through Midwestern dial-up BBSs back in the day. Graphics and sound fell into my lap.

Most of my tracks were done in Composer 669, but I've also worked with ScreamTracker3, Impulse Tracker and a few others.

now, I believe I still possess some of my old tracks on a disused Compaq laptop which I haven't booted up in a long time. I am going to see if I can recover some of them, those were some of my later projects. However, I may not be able to recover them, which is sad. I also have crates of archived files on CD and DVD, with any luck I have some backups. Other formats, such as floppies and Zipdisk (remember those?) are either unreadable or have gone missing.

MadMage passed away almost 15 years ago now; If he had any of them archived, they are lost; I've tried going to his family and friends, but haven't had any luck.

On the off chance anybody has any of my old song files, I would love to get them back again, if nothing else, I could archive them on Mod Archive for posterity.

I used to be pretty good about putting comments in my projects, even changing sample names where the format didn't support commenting. My handle was the same back then as it is now, Rave669. If I can find a list of old song titles to post up as well, I will do so.

Thanks in advance everyone :)
