Hmmm, design flaw perhaps.

He's easily excited.   :D

NitroTracker Community / Beta testing?
« on: December 11, 2008, 10:31:17 »
Now that the old forum is dead and buried, will beta testing be taking place on this forum?

I was on the list for beta testing for 0.4 but haven't heard anything since it came out as a public beta.

Anyone know?

Cheers

NitroTracker Support / Re: Will there be a synth in future versions?
« on: December 10, 2008, 15:54:29 »
Sorry for the late reply, I didn't realize you'd replied.

yes I mean polyphonic by 'poly'.

A ds version of something like operator would be heaven (operator is an FM synth as is megarive chip by the way), especially if this instrument could be implemented in the same ultra flexible way that trackers are able to use there channels in the most flexible way possible (ie multitimbrally). There is actually a megadrive sound chip compatible tracker that someone wrote, I suppose it would be helpful. its called 'TFM Music Maker'. I think this is the authors website http://shiru.untergrund.net/software.htm

Perhaps you code also take a sneaky peak at the code that creates the sound in the megadrive emulator, or does it have to be open source to do that? Here's a link http://www.neoflash.com/forum/index.php/topic,4571.0.html

I'm not sure what you mean by resources for FM synth but I hope this helps.

If you are worried about the difficulty in people being able to create their own synth sounds with little or no synth programming experience then perhaps it would be best to include a large user created patch (synth sound) library. You could even give the user access to a patch library online via the ds wifi. seeing as any synth sound can be stored in a bunch of parameters which could be contained in just a few bytes then it should be possible. I wouldn't mind contributing!

As per usual I seem to be getting way too excited, but these ideas are worth noting I suppose.

By the way, the wife is getting my DS-10 for xmas so that'll be nice

Cheers.

NitroTracker Community / Re: Other musical uses for DS
« on: October 09, 2008, 19:12:36 »
It's a shame that I can't put life on hold, because there are far too many things I want to do, and not nearly enough time to do them.

Hey, I know how you feel!

With regards to the audio input on the ds, wouldn't be possible to get a ds headset and just chop the cable off and solder on some rca connectors? I personally have an attic full of broken electronics to raid for parts when I need them.

Even if all the ds could manage in terms of processing were a flexible delay a lot can be achieved with this as the timing of the delay and feedback can be used for chorus and phaser effects with a pitch lfo in the right place.

anyway just food for thought

Cheers

NitroTracker Community / Other musical uses for DS

I was just wondering if anyone had any other ideas for music software that the DS could potentially run?

We of course have the ever flexible NT, DS-10 for realtime synthesis, Protein for scratching...

But what about FX? Couldn't someone code the DS to act as a realtime pocket effects unit? It has audio in (mic and mic Socket) and out (speakers and headphone socket) so why not? I can't code to save my life but I just thought I'd bring it up as an idea. I could be really cool if its possible

Cheers

NitroTracker Tracks & Songs / Chris Lody XM pack
« on: October 04, 2008, 12:32:44 »
Hello.

Here's a pack of xm's i've made with NT since version 0.3

They are the same as tha xm's I posted on the old forum but now tweaked for stereo. (check out the panned stereo strings in ChilledasFck, Mmmmm)

Any comments welcome

P.s. Login or the link won't appear.

Cheers

Maybe this would make a nice future "product" to compete with the Korg DS-10 :)

I can't stop thinking about this and have come up with a few ideas

I think if you were to make a separate product capable of realtime synthesis it may be best to go for FM synthesis as it would seem to be easier to get a decent amount of poly out of the cpu's compared to virtual analog synthesis. I'm not a coder but I noticed that jEnesisDS which is a megadrive/genesis emulator has an emulation of the megadrives sound chip which is a 4op 6 channel FM synth, so it seems well within the realms of possiblity.

Also you could recycle Nitrotracker sequencer as a tracker would be the best way the maximise the usefulness of what ever polyphony is available. The instruments could be replaced with sets of parameters for the synth and then triggered by the sequencer.

I'd personally choose more notes of FM poly over limited analog poly any day. It would be nice to be going in a different direction to DS-10 too.

Cheers.

I've been thinking about including some synth capabilities, so this might come in a future version. I'm not talking about realtime synthesis though since this wouldn't work with XM. Maybe this would make a nice future "product" to compete with the Korg DS-10 :) Sample drawing will be in 0.5, pretty sure!

Thanks for drawing my attention to the DS-10, I would sure like to get my hands on that.

Someone at Korg and Nintendo must have noticed how well Nitrotracker has been going down for this to happen i'm sure!

Bet you could do better than DS-10 though eh Tob?  :)

Cheers
