MilkyTracker Support / Re: Milky Tracker on Eee PC

You can also try to install windows. I use windows milky version in my acer aspire one

Now that's what I call great advice :P

@Rinko:
Is building from source an option? I'm sure you have to get the gcc toolchain first.

MilkyTracker Support / Re: will there be more updates?
« on: April 09, 2009, 09:28:58 »
There will be more updates but I have currently no plans (and no time) on improving MIDI support. If you want to synchronize your MIDI gear with a PDA (or vice versa) you first need a hardware solution (i.e. a proper cable) which can be then programmed/driven by MilkyTracker. This is not trivial and needs a lot of work.

But hey, MilkyTracker is open source, it's your chance...

Change the volume of the instrument in the instrument editor panel?

MilkyTracker Support / Re: exporting

This is actually not possible at all. The disk writer exports the song exactly as it would be played. I would assume that the program you load it into can not deal with the sample rate of the output wav. It might be a problem with 48000 Hz vs. 44100 Hz.

Important:
You should note that some macs simply don't support switching the output device sample rate. Even if the config panel says that e.g. 48000 Hz is selected, the sound device might still be set to 44100 Hz (or vice versa) and thus your song is playing either too fast or too slow but the disk writer does output it correctly.

There are actually two different possibilities.

You can create a drum kit with different samples into ONE single instrument. You do so by loading the samples in different sample slots (the box on the right side) and afterwards you need to assign the samples to notes on the keyboard in the instrument editor. The assignment works like this: You select a sample slot and then you click on the keys of the piano, you will notice that the number on the key changes as you "drag" with the mouse cursor over them.
Afterwards if you play this note in the pattern, you will hear your sample being played.

OR

You simply load each sample into a different instrument (box on the left side) and keep the samples all separated. That's basically how it was done back in the amiga and early PC days before FT2 arrived.

The "Disk Op" panel in MilkyTracker offers wav export. Alternatively you can press Cmd+R in FT2 mode to open the HD recorder directly.

Check your pm.

I wasn't really thinking of the global volume, but since stopping the song corrects the issue (resets the volume) then why not have the program do the same thing automatically at the start of the song?

Simply because of FT2 heritage. And also because the actual play function is too generic to simply make it reset the volume, this would break too many things at once.

I don't know, but I was thinking that the freezing problem might have something to do with the file browser. It's just a hunch, because I know that explorer really lags and looks like it has hung if there are lots of directories or files. Maybe I'm totally off course here, but it might be something to look into.

As I said, DirectSound is a 3rd party library and we switched with a major version from (3 to 4) in which the DirectSound support has basically been reprogrammed from scratch. But wait, I might be able to offer you a version of MilkyTracker having RtAudio3 support too.
