Do you have interpolation disabled in MilkyTracker? This can make some samples sound clearer, but it introduces aliasing effects which may or may not be desirable.

AFAIK, if you can get the USB keyboard and mouse working with the GP2X/SDL, it should then work with Milkytracker without having to make any changes.

As for 640x480 support - yes this is possible, but would require a recompile - convince me why this is actually useful and I will consider spending some time building the VGA version

I noticed that Milkytracker doesn't seem to support the industry standard Modplug tracker format: MPTM.  Any chance of adding this for the next release? It seems a serious ommision.

The Ableton Live sample is louder and exhibits more clipping than the Milkytracker sample. I suggest you compare with the original WAV instead of Ableton's rendered output. As well as the high frequency attenuation, Milkytracker is playing the sample slightly slower than Ableton - but once again we need to compare it to the original.

Also try disabling linear interpolation as jimee suggests.
